Lightning Preservation Group's English Electric Lighning F.6 XR728/JS sits in the Q-Shed at Bruntingthorpe.
This shed is the original RAF Wattisham QRA facility as used by the Lightnings and subsequent Phantoms when on 24 hour 365 day alert. It was donated to the LPG but they had to raise considerable funds to transport it across to Leicestershire.
On the day their other mount, XS904/BQ provided us with another deafening reminder of these potent weapons with a full and memorable re-heat run down the huge runway there at this ex USAF midlands base.
Sunday 15th July will see a re-enactment of a live QRA 'launch' from this very Q-shed.
