#Lightning from early this morning from the remains of #Florence. These bolts were so bright and loud. Had me up from 1-3am. Strongest cell that came over my house was at 2am. Had several close hits...
Taken me ages to post this shot.... I was stranded at Atlanta airport for a few hours back in August when "flight operations were suspended" due to a huge electrical storm. The lightening show was incredible. I got my camera out and took about 50 shots lasting for between 6 and 30 seconds. They were all hand held bracing the camera lens flat up against the window. This is the only one that actually captured any lightning..... but I'm rather pleased with it. Converted to B&W in lightroom and a bit of cleaning up with adjustement brush to remove a few bits of window glare.
From my backyard viewing across the lake, were some interesting lightning captures from the severe weather this week that caused 4 tornadoes in the area. (See Cash Tornado Pics - which is a few miles down the road from our house.)

A few minutes After passing a car on the Tanami near the Sturt Creek Crossing, I came upon this fire which had started by the road not so long before - possibly by someone in the car I had just passed. The fire was heading beside Sturt Creek in the direction of the Billiluna Community. There are a lot of fires throughout the Kimberley at this time of the year which is not good for a lot of the flora and fauna and fills the sky with smoke and haze for days on end. An idea of the extent and timing of fires across the top end of Australia can be seen at:
www.firenorth.org.au/nafi3/ (Link is to the Kimberley section of the site).
This fire must have burnt out overnight as it did not show on the website link above.

My first lightning photos, I have been to this lookout a few times with no sucess. Last night it paid off for me....(and Andrew)
This would have been a perfect shot if not for the grailles of my window. Taken with a 2-second shutter speed, and lots of luck.

Second attempt - this time after some research on how to take pictures of lightning. Actually, the research only consisted of checking out other pictures on flickr to see what shutter speed and ISO they used...
lightning over Fort Lauderdale, from the 24th floor. One clap of thunder was so loud and close we felt it rumble and it set off a car alarm outside the hotel. The storm lasted about 4 hours.
from July 6 to July 20th i went to my boyfriends house in Florida. We went on a 5 day mini roadtrip to Sarasota, Naples, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. It was amazing.
Lightning loved drinking milk from a soda glass. I put her on a table with a star lit back drop and a glass of milk and started taking pictures.
I had some advanced warning about the storm that was approaching so I set up my tripod and camera to see if I could get some lightning pictures.
My camera set up was; f 29. ISO 125, and a 3.2 second exposure.
I sent this shot to a local meteorologist and he was kind enough to show this, and other shots, on the 10pm news. Thank you for the recognition Mr Shesky (WTVO 17 Rockford)
