A day at Kennedy Space Center. Went on an Up-Close Tour, which included entrance into the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) and seeing the space shuttle Atlantis up close!
Lightning towers are built around the launch pads. These are the ones around Launch Pad B. Our tour guide pointed out that this area is the lightning capital of the U.S.
Lightning struck the very top of this tree sending the charge down its limb and the side of its trunk to the ground and peeled the bark off in its path as cleanly as a sharp sawblade. Shards can be seen hanging from its center.
Lightning in the distance, the migrating wildebeests and zebras follow the lightning during the great migration to find the rainfed grazing grounds
This would have been a perfect shot if not for the grailles of my window. Taken with a 2-second shutter speed, and lots of luck.
Second attempt - this time after some research on how to take pictures of lightning. Actually, the research only consisted of checking out other pictures on flickr to see what shutter speed and ISO they used...
