"Far out on the rim of the prairie lies a silvery haze, through which the vault of azure melts into the dusty whiteness of the grasses.

Then, level on level, with each slowly swelling rise growing sharper under that crystalline atmosphere the prairie rolls in, broken here by a willow copse and there by a straggling birch bluff, while a belt of cool neutral shadow marks the course of a deep-sunk ravine.

At first sight it is all one glaring sweep of white and gray, but on looking closer with understanding eyes one sees the yellow and sage-green of tall reeds in a sloo, the glowing lights of sun-bleached buffalo bones, and a mingling of many colors where there is wild peppermint or flowers among the grass.

Then, broad across the foreground, growing tall and green in a few moister places, and in others changing to ochre and coppery red, there ripples, acre after acre, a great sea of grain."

Westbound conainers are captured in a distant look at some of the many colorful layers that make up the landscape of Marmon, New Mexico.

*This is an outtake of the original set. I just wanted a lighter feeling image in with the stack.

The original intention was to have my dog sitting here with me.....he was NOT having it today! :) maybe another day! He is getting so big already!

Layers of rocks along the Kirby Cove trail.

The Kirby Cove trail is an easy 2 miles (3 km) round trip with stunning view of the San Francisco Bay.

On a cold winter morning I walked around the skyline trail. The air was so crisp and clear, with temperatures hovering around 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the sun crested the distant horizon, its rays cast a beautiful sunrise glow on all the layers of sandstone and snow, creating this magical scene.

I was just importing my 2009 photos into Lightroom and noticed, that i forgot to upload this one before. It's shot from the Brooklyn Bridge, just a few minutes after my most faved photo on flickr:

Brooklyn Bridge Sunset

As I've said before, the light was incredible after the heavy thunder storm just an hour earlier.

Each year a tree adds another ring.....another layer of growth, girth, and thickness as it ages.

Layers In Snow

On the rather dodgy roads driving to St Mary's Loch this morning, there were loads of oppertunities for images. This is one from near to the Grey Mare's Tail, I loved the layers but also the softness of the front group of trees covered in the falling snow.

Please feel free to share with your friends and family.

This was taken on one of our rare 'typical'alpine mornings of clear skies and frost and mist in New Zealand. The low pressure system that had loomed over the country for the preceding 2 weeks had provided humid mild conditions but this was a welcome change !
