While unsuccessful in trying to find our way into Jedediah Smith State Park due to road construction on both park entrances of all things... I took a couple of moments to just watch the fog move through the trees on the outskirts of the park.
The fog moved in and out so slowly and while I wanted to just move onto another location in hopes of more photographic opportunities, I felt that if i wait just a little bit longer... there would be some nice foggy layers formed in the trees here.
Yesterday I spent the day at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum with the family. It was such a great time wandering and seeing all the beautiful life that takes on this desert everyday. It really is amazing to me.
I took this shot with my Jupiter 37a 135mm f3.5 lens. It’s great at mashing the distance together and bringing out the background layers.

Leaving the rose garden at the park and noticed the layers of Autumn colors on during a gentle rain on the ginkgo tree on the left, maples and pin oaks, etc. on the right. Focus on the gingko. Grabbed a quick photo with my macro lens on the way to my car. I'm sure more to come. :-) Lots of rain the next several days then night temps dropping to at or below freezing. We got 5 inches of rain in 24 hours with more to come. Hadn't had much for a long time, even in a drought, but this is way too much! :-) Some area to the south of town got 10 inches.
Each layer is a different geologic time. This is an area of cliffs is the only place this occurs. At the bottom is the beach. Westport, CA.
A little morning sun finds its way between the clouds and the peaks to bring some light into the valley.

Μονεμβασιά - Monemvasia - Greece. Entrance to the upper town.
"The Kastro (Citadel) - including the acropolis - rises on a rock overhanging the sea, some 1,500 meters long, 600 meters wide and no more than 198.5 meters high. A perimeter of 3,600 meters in which fifteen hundred years of history coexist, layer upon layer".

Westbound conainers are captured in a distant look at some of the many colorful layers that make up the landscape of Marmon, New Mexico.

The complex geology of badlands terrain, Death Valley National Park.
The landscape of Death Valley National Park is extremely varied. The popular imagination first focuses on scenes of sand dunes, the classic signifier of “desert.” But the place is full of canyons, stream beds, surprising instances of water, mountain peaks, and even forests of several types. All of these are special, but scenes like this one may embody one of the the most common elements of this landscape, the exposure of its underlying geology.
The area of this photograph is incredibly complex. It is a maze of small, eroded formations and canyons, all of them interconnected. Underlying this are uplifted layers of material in colors ranging from nearly black to nearly white, interspersed with surprising bits of red, blue, and green. I photographed here early in the morning because the light was softer and richer and because the low angle of the sun entering the scene from the side delineated the eroded features.
