The ruins of St. Botolph's Priory in Colchester, with a later church in the distance. We regularly walk right along this wall/fence on our way into the town centre.

My other tree, while one branch has been in the soil for a few years i never scored the cambium contact point and was hoping a natural way at air layering would happen so i just added more soil to the top of leaf matter contacting the branch to the soil.
I also air layered a branch next to that branch but scoured the bark soil contact point down to the cambium and hormone added to the wound also using a pot with soil instead of ground contact .
I'm not sure how well beech air layer when on demand but i do know Honeywell mansion on Rte 16 in Wellesley Ma had at one time a ancient grand weeping or elephant beech so large
that bows over time broke, I'm not sure if the tree was ever trussed with guy wire but over time the weeping beech air layered all around the main tree which now is all that remains
of the original tree. so they do air layer, how long it takes for layering naturally vs purposely pushing roots at branch
soil contact points, now is the time to find out.
