Nick reassembles path. Salvaged concrete is set in a deep layer of sand. The path is now permeable and will catch rather than slough off rainwater.

The many layers of dirt, clay, rock amd molten rock below the surface of Earth tell us of its development, remind us of diminishing resources, and give us probabilities of future change by studying fissures and fault lines. An understanding of its make-up helps to understand the amount of time it took to form.

Our mind is not much different. Our thoughts, memories, remorse, and joys are layered within our memory. The intricate layering in my mind reminds me of what was, makes me aware of what is, and provides avenues between the layers so as to dream of what may be.

We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

For Beyond Layers II, we used a texture simply. For this image, I used GrungedUp at 42% and made some adjustments in levels, saturation and contrast.

Miss Gracie must get into every photo shoot although she prefers it when I shoot cupcakes as she must taste the frosting!
