Layered City by the Seattle Design Nerds
Installed at the American Planning Association's National Conference in Seattle.
Layered City is a community participation exercise, individuals are tasked with locating individual elements of a city where they think they should go.
This is my first attempt at layers - the photograph was taken on Armed Forces Day 2012
Yay or Nay?
Think this is one of those occasions where pressing L really does help :)

The Layers
by: Stanley Kunitz
dedicated to: Janine
I have walked through many lives,
some of them my own,
and I am not who I was,
though some principle of being
abides, from which I struggle
not to stray.
When I look behind,
as I am compelled to look
before I can gather strength
to proceed on my journey,
I see the milestones dwindling
toward the horizon
and the slow fires trailing
from the abandoned camp-sites,
over which scavenger angels
wheel on heavy wings.
Oh, I have made myself a tribe
out of my true affections,
and my tribe is scattered!
How shall the heart be reconciled
to its feast of losses?
In a rising wind
the manic dust of my friends,
those who fell along the way,
bitterly stings my face.
Yet I turn, I turn,
exulting somewhat,
with my will intact to go
wherever I need to go,
and every stone on the road
precious to me.
In my darkest night,
when the moon was covered
and I roamed through wreckage,
a nimbus-clouded voice
directed me:
"Live in the layers,
not on the litter."
Though I lack the art
to decipher it,
no doubt the next chapter
in my book of transformations
is already written.
I am not done with my changes.
This is brave.
A whole photo with a single, solitary, bold subject.
kk_awaken is the only layer used on this one, soft light blend mode
background set with soft light blend as well
no other editing (besides the obvious addition of words)
Demolition of a building next to the Square in Downtown Marietta has revealed these old layers of construction.
+I used multiple layers to create one composite image. Also used the opacity tool to make the extra arm layers more opaque. I tried to put my hands in different positions to make it more interesting!
-Could have used different arm positions not just out to the side.
(sidenote: I didn't upload the originals because my face is really really REALLy awkward in them :/ but if you just imagine this photo with different arm positions I think you can tell where the photos came from. Ha ha...)
