Not sure what species of fish, but I had seen some jumping--and I assume the loon did too--just before the loon caught this one. Note that the loon is just coming into alternate or breeding plumage.

Like I said before... there is nothing "common" about a Common Loon.
When he flapped his wings after preening, I was lucky enough to catch this series of this extraordinary bird.
He was busy catching crabs and at times fighting with another bird in breeding plumage who repeatedly tried to drag him under and drive him across the water. Soon that relented and they began to tolerate each other. I think their hormones levels are high at this time.
I felt at peace as I lay down and watched these two birds go about their business. They couldn't care less about our presence as they swam closer and closer and directly to us. It was a magical moment as our faces met. Even in the moment I couldn't stop from saying "Wow". They cried out their wailing calls several times to each other. I never tire of that sound. I felt blessed to be in their presence.
Whenever life gets tough, getting out in nature and with the birds just lifts me back up again. This is especially true when I get to spend time in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my favourite person and one of my favourite birds, the Common Loon.

Immer gerne von mir fotografiert: Der DGS 69381 von Bremen Rbf. nach München Milbertshofen. Dieser Neuwagentransport wird nämlich häufig von Loks des schwedischen Unternehmens Hectorrail traktioniert. Am 19. April 2019 konnte ich 242.516 mit einer "gelben Wand" in der Geraden bei Fahlenbach aufnehmen.
On April 19th 2019 Hectorrail's 242.516 hauled freight train DGS 69381 loaded with brand new Volkswagens from Bremen shunting yard to Munich Milbertshofen. I took this picture near Fahlenbach on the track between Ingolstadt and Munich.
Der Kleiber nutzt immer verlassene Spechtbruthöhlen oder, wie hier, Nistkästen, deren Eingang er mit Lehm so umbaut, dass nur noch er Zugang zum Gelege und den Jungen hat. Man kann den nassen Lehmklumpen im Schnabel des kleinen Baumeisters gut erkennen, er kam alle drei bis fünf MInuten mit einem weiteren Batzen und man kann sich vorstellen, dass die Umbaumaßnahmen recht zügig vonstatten gehen.
Noch ein Gedanke zur Pose: Als Vogel macht man sich naturgemäß weniger Sorgen, dass man irgendwo runterfallen könnte. Aber ich finde es dennoch phantastisch, dass der Kleiber genügend Kraft in seinen Krallen hat um sich koppheister an den doch relativ glatten Oberflächen des Dachs festzuhalten.

So ein Puppenleben ist auch nicht immer ein Honigschlecken !! 😮Bei den Fotoaufnahmen kommt es immer wieder einmal zu Stürzen, aber selten zu Fotos davon. Im Normalfall versuche ich mit meiner freien Hand das Puppenkind schnell aufzufangen, bei diesen Aufnahmen jedoch hatte ich schon auf den Auslöser gedrückt, bevor Luis oder auch Bärbels Fächer denen ihnen zugedachten Platz plötzlich verließen … Bei Aufnahmen im Schnee stürzte Luis kopfüber ins kühle Weiß und obwohl ihn sein Lächeln trotzdem nicht verließ, liefen ihm tatsächlich Tränen aus den Augen !! 😢
Zum Glück haben mir die beiden bis jetzt trotzdem nicht die Zusammenarbeit gekündigt ...😜
Such a doll's life is not always a piece of cake !! 😮During the photo shoots, there are always falls, but rarely photos of them. Normally I try to catch the doll quickly with my free hand, but in these photos I had already pressed the shutter release before Luis or Bärbel's fan suddenly left their intended place ... In photos taken in the snow, Luis fell headfirst into the cool white and although his smile did not leave him, tears actually ran from his eyes !! 😢
Fortunately, they still haven't cancelled their cooperation with me ...😜

was nice to see quite a few of these loons on the ocean yesterday with quite an array of other sea birds, ... a common loon, its plumage will change quite dramatically as winter approaches
Immer mehr Platterbsen blühen entlang der Südlichen Weinstrasse. Sie locken Holzbienen, Hummeln, Schmetterlinge und viele andere Insekten zu ihren Blüten.
Lathyrus are now flowering along our winestreet. Carpenter bees, humbles and moths love them very much.
