Took a canoe trip with a friend in search of a loon family. Found the family much sooner than we anticipated (just after our launch) and had to move on to avoid stressing them. Came back in later (to return to our launch point), and were able to see the chick as we passed by. Still managed some great shots.

such a cute sight when the little tern came and brought food. Always when it passed on a successless flight they exchanged cries to comfort each other.
Was für eine schöne und süße Beobachtung, als die Zwergseeschwalbe sein Küken fütterte. Immer, wenn sie erfolglos geblieben und vorbeigekommen ist, haben beide gerufen und sich gegenseitig Nähe gezeigt.

Shooting into the sun presented the problem of not knowing exactly what I'd capture, but I thought I'd get some good shots. I was pleased that I got a number of good sunstars (in other posts) and general portraits including this one.
Here, I like the dark background with the subtle glow behind the bird's head.
I shot this handheld at 500mm from a kayak in calm water.

These Common Loons were out together on a lake near Cochrane, Alberta, Canada. This was the first time they were both out together in a couple of week. They tried to bread this year but sadly a fox got to the eggs. Hopefully next year we will have babies.

MYANMAR,Burma , am Rande des Inle-Sees, uriger buddhistischer Pagodenwald mit Grabmal-Stupas von Indein (Inthein,In-Dein).
Der Pagodenwald liegt westlich des Inle-Sees und ist über einen Kanal erreichbar. Die ältesten Grab-Stupas dieses Friedhofs stammen aus dem 17. Jahrhundert,[1] aber auch heute noch werden neue Stupas gebaut. Immer mehr alte Monumente sind inzwischen renoviert, und so hat sich ein buntes Gemisch aus Gold, Stuck und nacktem, manchmal bewachsenem Backstein entwickelt.
MYANMAR, Burma, on the edge of Inle Lake, rustic Buddhist pagoda forest with tomb stupas from Indein (Inthein,In-Dein).
The pagoda forest is west of Inle Lake and can be reached via a canal. The oldest tomb stupas in this cemetery date back to the 17th century[1] but new stupas are still being built today. More and more old monuments have now been renovated, resulting in a colorful mix of gold, stucco and bare, sometimes overgrown brick.

Common loon (Gavia immer - Gaviidae) pointing its bill straight up in the air

It's been reported that loons strike this pose when defending against bald eagles, and perhaps other preditors that come from above. A story in the state of Maine in the northeastern USA, states that a loon in this position impaled and killed a bald eagle while defending against an attack.
That said, loons also display many poses in their courtship to impress their mates. Might this also be one of those poses? I don't know. Two bald eagles also were active on the lake while I was there. Surely the loons were aware of the eagles.

Das Eurasische Eichhörnchen (Sciurus vulgaris), häufig nur als Eichhörnchen bekannt, ist ein Nagetier aus der Familie der Hörnchen (Sciuridae). Es ist der einzige natürlich in Mitteleuropa vorkommende Vertreter aus der Gattung der Eichhörnchen und wird zur Unterscheidung von anderen Arten wie dem Kaukasischen Eichhörnchen und dem in Europa eingebürgerten Grauhörnchen auch als Europäisches Eichhörnchen bezeichnet.

This Great Northern Diver, a welcome winter visitor, has been entertaining birders this week at Farmoor Reservoir in Oxfordshire. The largest of the UK's divers, it has a bigger, heavier head and bill than its commoner relatives. It is largely a winter visitor to our shores although some non-breeding birds stay off northern coasts in the summer.

Seit vielen Jahren im Einsatz haben sie immer einen guten Job geleistet. Sicher fragt Ihr Euch, welchen? Ihr Lebensziel ist; auf Stricknadeln zu sitzen. Wenn die Maschen zu vorwitzig werden und von der Stricknadel in die ersehnte Freiheit tanzen möchten sagen meine beiden Helfer-Bärchen STOP. Ich wünsche Euch eine friedliche gute Woche und... bleibt gesund.

Two mesh bears sit profitably next to each other after their work is done and recover from their work.
For many years they have always done a good job. Surely you are asking yourselves, which one? Their goal in life is; to sit on knitting needles. When the stitches get too cheeky and want to dance off the knitting needle into the longed-for freedom, my two helper bears say STOP. I wish you a peaceful good week and.... stay healthy.

Deux oursons à mailles sont assis côte à côte après avoir terminé leur travail et se reposent de leur tâche.
En service depuis de nombreuses années, ils ont toujours fait du bon travail. Vous vous demandez certainement lequel ? Leur but dans la vie est de s'asseoir sur des aiguilles à tricoter. Lorsque les mailles deviennent trop espiègles et veulent danser de l'aiguille à tricoter vers la liberté tant attendue, mes deux oursons auxiliaires disent STOP.
