We found this Common Loon swimming in the harbor at Homer and it was waving it's foot around. That was a new one on me. I watched it for a bit as it waggled its foot and I have no clue what that behavior this represents. I'm making it a point this year to try to get some shots of these birds in their breeding plumage. I think they're just so gorgeous in their formal attire!

Noch immer fahren die slowenischen "Mopeds" der Baureihe 342 und halten sich wacker vor den internationalen Schnellzügen. Doch diese werden mit Bestellung von modernen E-Loks wohl demnächst abgelöst. Am 26.04.2026 ist 342-014 mit dem MV247 "Citadella" von Ljubljana nach Hodoš bei Litija unterwegs.
The Slovenian Class 342 "mopeds" are still running and holding their own bravely against international express trains. However, they will likely be replaced soon with the order of modern electric locomotives. On April 26, 2026, locomotive 342-014 is seen hauling the MV247 "Citadella" from Ljubljana to Hodoš near Litija.

J'ai compris pourquoi ce couple de Huard nageaient aussi serré l'un de l'autre avec leur petit entre eux. Une énorme tortue serpentine se trouvait dans ce secteur peu profond du lac. À un moment les parent se sont mis à garder la tête dans l'eau, à plonger, à éclabousser l'eau pour éloigner ce prédateur.

Immer wenn ich nach der Arbeit mit meinem Kaffee im Garten sitze genieße ich die Natur. Dieser kleine Spatz schaute ganz entspannt in die Kamera. Whenever I sit in the garden with my coffee after work, I enjoy nature. This little sparrow gazed calmly into the camera.
While paddling my canoe, I came across this Loon sitting on a nest at the edge of an island in a large lake. It seemed rather late in the season to me for nesting as most other loons are already feeding little ones out on the water.

Immer wieder seltener trifft man auf eine 5022er im Schrägdesign. Mittlerweile sind wenigstens 43 der 60 5022ern Einheiten in den neuen CityJet Farben umlackiert. 5022.047 trägt noch das Schrägdesign als sie in Grünbach am Schneeberg vorbeikommt.
Only a few units of the series 5022 wear the old livery, also calld the Schrägdesign. At least 43 out of the 60 units have already been painted into the new corporate colors with the CityJet branding. 5022.047 still has its original colors and could be captured near Grünbach.
Immer Samstags verkehrt der Gipszug Scharzfeld - Bitterfeld über die Südharzbahn. Hier mit 285 108 ("ITL") im Bahnhof von Walkenried. Im Vergleich zu vielen anderen Bahnhöfen in Deutschland hat sich hier in den letzten 30 Jahren im Grunde genommen gar nicht so sonderlich viel getan. Zwar wird das Bahnhofsgebäude und die Stückgutverladung nicht mehr als Bahngebäude genutzt, beide stehen allerdings noch. Ersteres sogar in ziemlich gutem Zustand.
The Scharzfeld - Bitterfeld gypsum train runs every Saturday via the Südharzbahn. Here with 285 108 ("ITL") in the station of Walkenried. Compared to many other railway stations in Germany, not much has happened here in the last 30 years. Although the station building and the general cargo loading are no longer used as railway buildings, both are still standing. The former even in quite good condition.

Die relativ neuen DB-Vectrons stehen bei Eisenbahnfotografen hoch im Kurs. Die Einsätze werden immer häufiger und man sieht die Loks fast in der gesamten Bundesrepublik.
Hier fährt gerade 193 310 "Das ist grün" mit einem KLV-Zug bei der bekannten Fotostelle auf der Brücke bei Harrbach gen Würzburg.

Taken earlier in the year off Mull, this Great Northern diver had been diving constantly, emerging to show its glistening striking black and white feathers in the sun. On the sea Great Northern Diver feed on fish especially haddock, herring and sand eel.

Dabei hat der bergauf fahrende Zug immer die Vorfahrt.

There is only one place where the trains can meet.
The train traveling uphill always has the right of way.
Ich bin immer auf der Suche nach heimischen Motiven. Das ist nicht leicht und oft wird man doch nur enttäuscht. Heute kam ich kurz vor Sonnenuntergang in Kemlas vorbei und bin spontan angehalten. Ja, da werde ich einige Aufnahmen machen. Von allen Aufnahmen blieb dieses Bild über. Kemlas liegt auf einem kleinen Hügel, umgeben von weißen Schneefeldern. Die Abendsonne war schon eine Herausforderung, da sie noch ziemlich hell war und der empfindliche Sensor dabei schnell überstrahlt werden konnte. Ich entschloß mich daher, eine Belichtungsreihe von 5 Aufnahmen zu machen mit einer Abstufung von 1 Blende pro Bild. Ja, damit konnte ich die noch kräftige Sonne zusammen mit der Landschaft darstellen.

I'm always on the lookout for local subjects to photograph. It's not easy, and often I'm just disappointed. Today, I passed through Kemlas shortly before sunset and spontaneously stopped. Yes, I'll take some photos. Of all the shots, this one stood out. Kemlas sits on a small hill, surrounded by white snowfields. The evening sun was quite a challenge, as it was still rather bright and the sensitive sensor could easily be overexposed. I therefore decided to take a series of five exposures, with a one-stop increment between each shot. Yes, this allowed me to capture the still-intense sun together with the landscape.
