was nice to see quite a few of these loons on the ocean yesterday with quite an array of other sea birds, ... a common loon, its plumage will change quite dramatically as winter approaches
Es ist immer wieder faszinierend und interessant, das Sozialleben von Gänsen zu beobachten. Der Ganter im Bild hat von seiner Gans gerade die Aufsicht über die vier Kinder übernommen, damit sie sich mal entspannen kann. Den ganzen Nachmittag waren die Kleinen bei der Mama, aber auf einmal dirigierte sie die kleine Gruppe zum Vater, der bis dahin unbeteiligt weit weg stand, übergab die Kinder ohne viel Tamtam und zog sich alleine an ein gemütliches Plätzchen zurück. Schon die Küken scheinen zu verstehen, dass Mama ab und zu mal Zeit für sich braucht. Denn obwohl die Gans während ich das Foto machte nur knapp 10m entfernt in Sichtweite ist bleiben sie brav bei ihrem Papa. Und was macht Papa, wenn ihm die Rasselbande am Bein klebt? Er geht am Ufer entlang auf eine kleine Exkursion, damit alle beschäftigt sind und niemand auf dumme Gedanken kommt. Diese exklusive "Papazeit" dauerte über eine Stunde bevor die Familie sich wieder vereinigte und dann zusammen blieb bis es dunkel wurde. Hast Du Dich schon einmal gefragt, wie Tiere es schaffen ein Leben lang in ihrer Partnerschaft zusammen zu bleiben? Schau genau hin, es gibt Zeichen... 😋
It’s always fascinating and interesting to observe the social behaviour of geese. The gander in the picture has just taken over looking after the four goslings from their mum, so she can have a bit of a rest. The little ones had been with their mum all afternoon, but suddenly she herded the small group over to their dad, who had been standing off to one side, uninvolved, handed the children over without much fuss, and withdrew on her own to a cosy spot. Even the goslings seem to understand that Mum needs some time to herself now and then. Because although the goose is within sight, barely 10 metres away, whilst I was taking the photo, they stay obediently with their dad. And what does dad do when the little rascals are clinging to his leg? He goes off on a little excursion to keep everyone busy and make sure nobody gets up to any silly idea. This exclusive ‘dad time’ lasted over an hour before the family reunited and then stayed together until it got dark. Have you ever wondered how animals manage to stay together as a couple for their whole lives? Take a closer look – there are signs...😋
Immer mehr Platterbsen blühen entlang der Südlichen Weinstrasse. Sie locken Holzbienen, Hummeln, Schmetterlinge und viele andere Insekten zu ihren Blüten.
Lathyrus are now flowering along our winestreet. Carpenter bees, humbles and moths love them very much.

Pris depuis la grande digue, le plongeon a offert une magnifique démonstration d'efficacité de pêche. Malgré la profondeur à cet endroit (entre 10 et 15m d'après une personne qui s'occupe du barrage),il ressortait très souvent avec une écrevisse dans le bec.
Taken from the great dike, the loon offered a magnificent demonstration of fishing efficiency. Despite the depth at this place (between 10 and 15m according to a person who works at the dam), it very often emerged with a crayfish in the beak.

Voici une première image où l'on retrouve seul ce tout jeune adolescent alors âgé de 5 semaines. Pendant que maman allait lui quérir des petits poissons, il restait tranquille à proximité de nos embarcations, davantage préoccupé par ce qui pouvait se passer en l'air que par notre présence. Étonnante tolérance qui nous aura si bien servie.
