Seeing a chick on an adult's back is a special moment. Saw one chick riding backwards yesterday but he fell in the water pretty quick after that.
Immer ein Hingucker: Der Sandzug aus dem Werk Rohrdorf mit den bunten Rocktainer Waggons. Am 05. Dezember 2024 begegnete mir der sich fotogen von der Landschaft abhebende Zug bei Niederaudorf im Inntal. Zuglok war an diesem Tage die 1293.021.
Always an eye-catcher: the sand train from the Rohrdorf plant with the colourful Rocktainer wagons. On 5 December 2024, I came across this train standing out photogenically against the landscape near Niederaudorf in the Inn Valley. The locomotive on this day was 1293.021.

Immer gern fotografiert: Der letzte noch in gelb silberner Ursprungsfarbgebung befindliche Dispo-Taurus. Am 27. Mai 2017 war die für TXLogistik fahrende 182 511 für die Beförderung des DGS 43949 von Wanne-Eickel nach Wien Freudenau Hafen eingeteilt. Der einheitlich mit Aufliegern der Spedition LKW Walter beladene Zug konnte bei Edlhausen in der Oberpfalz abgelichtet werden.
The last Taurus-engine in the yellow-silver original paint of private rental company MRCE is 182 511. At the 27th of May 2017 this locomotive was scheduled for freight train DGS 43949 from Wanne-Eickel to Vienna. This train was completely loaded with trailers of Austrian trucking company LKW Walter. I took this picture near the small village of Edlhausen on the track between Nuremberg and Regensburg.
Auch wenn´s auf den ersten Blick nicht so aussieht: das Foto zeigt einen der spektakulärsten Wanderwege der Sächsischen Schweiz - die Rahmhanke am Basteimassiv.
Der schon seit dem Mittelalter bekannte Weg führt auf einem schmalen Felsband unterhalb der Bastei etwa auf halber Höhe über der Elbe vom Wartturm (Fotostandort) bis zum Tiedgestein (halbrechts an der Abbruchkante des Felsens). An der linken Bildkante sieht man mittig noch zwei Wanderer auf der Rahmhanke.
Wer hier unterwegs sein möchte, sollte unbedingt trittsicher sein und das Wort Höhenangst nicht im Wortschatz haben!

Common Loon (Gavia immer) chick (only days old) watches attentively as its parents express a display of affection on a beautiful summer morning on the lake. These smaller displays of courting will continue throughout the chick-rearing season. They are believed to strengthen the bond of the pair and serve as a signal to any other loons of their home territory. I felt privileged to witness this intimate family moment. Taken in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. (Best viewed large.)

Immer wieder gerne fahre ich die paar Kilometer von meinem Zuhause ins Eiterbachtal. Die Straße endet hier. Eine 15-minütiger Spaziergang durch ein Naturschutzgebiet führt einen an einen Ort, ich bin keine Esoteriker, aber auf einen Ort die Bezeichnung "Kraftort"passt, dann auf diesen: Der Lichtenklinger Hof war einst landwirtschaftliches Anwesen mit einer großen Kapelle (1387 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt). Nach der Reformation wurde die Kapelle nicht mehr genutzt und verfiel seitdem. Seit 1786 werden aber wieder Wallfahrten zu der Ruine veranstalten. Auf den Mauerresten stehen daher Kerzen, kleine Büsten, Stauen und andere Devotionalien. Ein schöner Ort und das Beste daran, man ist sehr häufig ganz alleine dort 😊.

I always enjoy driving the few kilometers from my home to the Eiterbach valley. The road ends here. A 15-minute walk through a nature reserve takes you to a place. I'm not an esoteric, but if there's a place that fits the description "place of power," then it's this one: The Lichtenklinger Hof was once an agricultural property with a large chapel (first mentioned in documents in 1387). After the Reformation, the chapel was no longer used and has fallen into disrepair ever since. Since 1786, however, pilgrimages have been held to the ruins again. Candles, small busts, statues and other devotional objects stand on the remains of the wall. A beautiful place and the best thing about it is that you are very often completely alone there 😊.

En el año 2016 se vio dentro de la ría de avilés el último colimbo y nada menos que cuatro años después volvimos a ver otro ejemplar.

C'est ma première rencontre avec le plongeon imbrin (ou plongeon huard) dont la présence était signalée depuis quelques jours. Il était resté assez loin hélas mais pour une première je vais me contenter de cette qualité moyenne.

This is my first encounter with the Common Loon whose presence had been reported in recent days. It had remained quite far unfortunately but for a lifer I will settle for this medium quality.
