On the weekend of Whitsun I allowed myself and my family a little rest at the Baltic Sea and on the way back I made a detour to the sculpture park Katzow.
The Katzow Sculpture Park is one of the largest in Europe with over 100 sculptures on an area of 20 hectares. It is located just outside Katzow in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald. Sculptures by almost 100 artists from 23 countries can be found here in the Vorpommern landscape between Greifswald and Wolgast. The predominant material is wood and steel. Some of the sculptures have a dead weight of 20 tons and reach a height of 18 m. Thus they form a contrast to the wide landscape in which they stand.

Am Pfingstwochenende habe ich mir mit meiner Familie ein wenig Erholung an der Ostsee gegönnt und auf dem Rückweg einen Abstecher zum Skulpturenpark Katzow gemacht.
Der Skulpturenpark Katzow ist mit über 100 Skulpturen auf einer Fläche von 20 ha einer der größten in Europa. Er befindet sich etwas außerhalb von Katzow im Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald. Skulpturen von fast 100 Künstlern aus 23 Ländern, stehen hier in der vorpommerschen Landschaft zwischen Greifswald und Wolgast. Das vorwiegende Material ist Holz und Stahl. Die Skulpturen haben teilweise ein Eigengewicht von 20 t und erreichen eine Höhe von 18 m. Damit bilden sie einen Gegensatz zur weiten Landschaft, in der sie stehen.

Taken 6 minutes before sunrise on Ground Hog Day. I'm betting on 6 more weeks of winter. This Saturday's maximum temperature will be in the single digits with wind chill temperature of -20F. Today it is expected to reach 60F.
To lose a friend through a sudden death and to be driving to an infant baptism, such is life in a car...driving east to St. Ann’s...deep and mixed thoughts. A morning with a mixed horizon of winter clouds of gray and radiant orange fire centering on a glorious dawn...Today, the feast of St. Stephen, starts with the unexpected mixture of hope and sadness, facing the “real” amongst a barrage of ordinary distractions. My petty thoughts fade to where they belong...shrouded in darkness...to focus on the important things...the beauty of an orange horizon holding up the threatening clouds of December. What is our hope when all appears chaotic?
The church is cold when I arrive! As I prepare a liturgical place, the reality of hope is displayed in feelings of warmth and orange...and my spirit lifts...as I prepare to receive a child...the two of us are adorned in white...we smile at each other...Jack is my hope now.

ENG: You can see a part of the city hall of Lübeck with the world famous Niederegger Marzipan Café on the market square. I photographed the whole thing from the second floor of the Niederegger Museum in the headquarters directly opposite. I don't think much needs to be said about the company. Niederegger is one of the best-known manufacturers of Lübeck marzipan, but also other confectionery products and exists now already for over 200 years.
A tip is also the Niederegger factory outlet in Lübeck. If you love marzipan like I do, you're in paradise here. Here you can find lots of chocolate and a large selection of cakes with coffee, as well as many heavily reduced treats to take home, such as the 500g bag with broken marzipan for just under 4.50€. If this factory outlet also existed here in Berlin, I would be a regular. ☻

GER: Zu sehen ist ein Teil des Rathauses von Lübeck mit dem Welt berühmten Niederegger Marzipan Café am Marktplatz. Fotografiert habe ich das Ganze aus dem zweiten Stockwerk des Niederegger Museums im Stammhaus direkt gegenüber. Viel muss man glaube zur Firma nicht sagen. Niederegger ist einer der bekanntesten Hersteller von Lübecker Marzipan, aber auch anderer Konditoreiprodukte und existiert mittlerweile bereits schon seit über 200 Jahren.
Ein Tipp ist auch der Niederegger Fabrikverkauf in Lübeck. Wer Marzipan liebt wie ich, ist hier im Paradies. Hier gibt es viel Schokolade und eine große Kuchenauswahl mit Kaffee sowie viele stark reduzierte Leckereien zum mitnehmen, wie zum Beispiel die 500g Bruch Tüte für knapp 4,50€. Wenn es diesen Fabrikverkauf auch hier in Berlin geben würde, wäre ich Stammgast. ☻
ENG: The Carillon in Berlin is a hand played carillon in the district of Tiergarten. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the House of World Cultures - the former Congress Hall - in the Großer Tiergarten, approximately on the same site where the Kroll Opera was located until 1951.
The tower of the Carillon consists of four individual towers grouped into a square, each 42 metres high and clad in black granite. With 68 church bells, it is the fourth largest carillon in the world and has a range of five and a half octaves. The largest bell weighs 7.8 tons.
The carillon was donated in 1987 for the 750th birthday of the city of Berlin by Daimler-Benz AG under Edzard Reuter with 2.8 million marks, 2.2 million marks were added by the state of Berlin. The tower carillon was intended to commemorate the historic carillons in the Parochialkirche and the Potsdam Garrison Church, both of which were destroyed in the Second World War.

GER: Das Carillon in Berlin ist ein von Hand spielbares Glockenspiel im Ortsteil Tiergarten. Es steht in unmittelbarer Nähe des Hauses der Kulturen der Welt – der ehemaligen Kongresshalle – im Großen Tiergarten, ungefähr an der Stelle, an der sich bis 1951 die Krolloper befand.
Der Turm des Carillons besteht aus vier zum Karree gruppierten Einzeltürmen, die jeweils 42 Meter hoch und mit schwarzem Granit verkleidet sind. Mit 68 Kirchenglocken ist es das viertgrößte Carillon der Welt und verfügt über einen Tonumfang von fünfeinhalb Oktaven. Die größte Glocke wiegt 7,8 Tonnen.
Das Carillon wurde 1987 zum 750. Geburtstag der Stadt Berlin von der Daimler-Benz AG unter Edzard Reuter mit 2,8 Millionen Mark gestiftet, 2,2 Millionen Mark kamen vom Land Berlin hinzu. Mit dem Turmglockenspiel sollte der historischen Carillons in der Parochialkirche und der Potsdamer Garnisonkirche gedacht werden, die beide im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört worden sind.

ENG: The underground station "Unter den Linden" is one of the two newest open underground stations in the Berlin district Mitte of the same name. It is part of the extension of the U5 underground line from Hönow deep in the east of the city beyond Alexanderplatz to Brandenburg Gate and on to the terminus at Hauptbahnhof. The construction had its ground-breaking ceremony in 2010 and it has now been ceremoniously opened on 4 December 2020 at 12 noon. The second new station also opened on 4 December and is called "Rotes Rathaus". The third and last new station will then be called "Museumsinsel" and is scheduled to open in mid-2021.

GER: Der U-Bahnhof „Unter den Linden“ ist einer von zwei der neusten offenen U-Bahnhöfe im Berliner Ortsteil Mitte des gleichnamigen Bezirks. Er ist Teil der Verlängerung der U-Bahn-Linie U5 von Hönow tief im Osten der Stadt über den Alexanderplatz hinaus zum Brandenburger Tor bis zur Endstation Hauptbahnhof. Der Bau hatte seinen ersten Spatenstich 2010 und er wurde nun am 4. Dezember 2020 um 12 Uhr feierlich eröffnet. Der zweite neue Bahnhof eröffnete ebenfalls am 04.12. und trägt den Namen „Rotes Rathaus“. Der dritte und letzte neue Bahnhof wird dann den Namen „Museumsinsel“ haben und soll Mitte 2021 erst eröffnen.

ENG: You can see the Tram TM 36 (3587) of the Berlin Transport Company (BVG) in front of the Kleinmachnower lock directly at the river Teltow canal and dates back to 1938. This now serves as an information center of the regional heritage association. Part of the lock building can also be seen in the background.
It is part of the Tram (Street Car) line 96, which once connected Behrenstrasse in Berlin Mitte and Tempelhof with Teltow, Stahnsdorf and Kleinmachnow. In 1887, a 5-kilometer streetcar line was built from Groß-Lichterfelde, now called Lichterfelde-Ost, to Teltow. It was initially single-tracked and required a travel time of 30 minutes. Four years later, the line was extended to Stahnsdorf and in 1905 to Machnower Schleuse. The steam vehicles (also known as lame ducks) were not very powerful at the time, so the line was converted to electric operation in 1907. From 1930, it then drove as line 96. But with the construction of the Berlin Wall, the Tram operation was unfortunately discontinued. Since 2012, the car is open to visitors after extensive renovation.

GER: Zu sehen ist der Triebwagen TM 36 (3587) der Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) vor der Kleinmachnower Schleuse direkt am Teltow-Kanal und stammt aus dem Jahr 1938. Dieser dient jetzt als Informationszentrum des regionalen Heimatvereins. Im Hintergrund ist auch ein Teil des Schleusen Gebäudes zu sehen.
Er ist ein Teil der Bahn Linie 96, die einst die Behrenstraße in Berlin Mitte und Tempelhof mit Teltow, Stahnsdorf und Kleinmachnow verband. 1887 wurde eine 5 Kilometer lange Straßenbahnstrecke von Groß-Lichterfelde, heute heißt es Lichterfelde-Ost, nach Teltow gebaut. Sie war zunächst eingleisig und benötigte eine Fahrzeit von 30 Minuten. Vier Jahre später wurde die Strecke dann bis Stahnsdorf und 1905 bis zur Machnower Schleuse verlängert. Sehr kraftvoll fuhren die Dampffahrzeuge (auch lahme Enten gennant) damals nicht gerade, daher wurde 1907 die Bahn dann auf elektrischen Betrieb umgestellt. Ab 1930 fuhr sie dann als Linie 96. Doch mit dem Bau der Berliner Mauer wurde der Straßenbahnbetrieb leider eingestellt. Seit 2012 steht der Wagen nach umfassender Sanierung für Besucher offen.

I have found mushrooms and fungi fascinating since since seeing the documentary "Fabulous Fungi."
Shot with my phone; if I had rushed inside to get one of my "real" cameras, the moment would have been lost. I know this because I took this photo then rushed to get my camera. By the time I was back (less than a minute), this meeting was over!
All of our five cats are rescues. Two are from kill shelters, two are from humane shelters, and one from our back patio! All are happy kitties.

According to a Native American legend, Coyote was playing carelessly with his eyes, throwing them up in the air, until Eagle caught them and flew away with them. Coyote replaced his eyes with two ranunculus flowers, complex, multi-petaled blossoms, sometimes known as buttercup flowers. ENG: Recently I had time again for a stroll in the City West. So I was once again tempted to go to the KaDeWe (department store of the West). Honestly, my last visit is certainly 20 years ago. ☻ Purely architecturally, something has changed, as can be seen in the new escalator system. I captured the escalator confusion in a long exposure. Why? Because there were simply too many people on the move. ☻

GER: Letztens hatte ich mal wieder Zeit für einen Stadtbummel in der City West. So kam ich mal wieder in die Versuchung ins KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westens) zu gehen. Ganz ehrlich, mein letzter Besuch ist bestimmt schon 20 Jahre her. ☻ Rein architektonisch hat sich schon was verändert, wie am neuen Rolltreppen System zu sehen ist. Eingefangen habe ich das Rolltreppen Wirrwarr in einer Langzeitbelichtung. Warum? Weil dort einfach zu viele Menschen unterwegs waren. ☻

I intended to post this for today's Smile On Saturday challenge, Flower SOOC but didn't realize they closed at 7 and not 8 EST. Anyhow, here it is, straight out of my iPhone, selective focus of a flowering maple bloom taken at the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx, NYC -- September 30, 2022.
We somehow made it through one of the last cruises last year. Of course one of the few times I got off the ship without the kids, my camera battery died. Thankfully phone cameras are so good now.
ENG: The Zion Church is a Protestant church in the Rosenthaler Vorstadt in the Berlin district Mitte of the same name. It belongs to the Evangelische Kirchengemeinde am Weinberg in the church district Berlin Stadtmitte.
The photo was actually taken only because of a wrong parker. He parked his car directly in the curve on the Zionskirchplatz, so that the streetcar could not pass. Normally, the view is not offered so, because the train is otherwise too fast disappeared around the corner.
It was inaugurated in 1873 in what was then the north of the city as the church of a daughter parish of the St. Elisabeth parish. The architect of the building, donated as a votive church by the Prussian king and later German emperor Wilhelm I, was August Orth. Among other things, the church gained importance as the place of work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who worked here as a pastor. Shortly before the end of the GDR, the Zion Church was a center of opposition with Kirche von unten and the samizdat magazine Umweltblätter. Thus, resistance against the GDR regime was also planned here.

GER: Die Zionskirche ist eine evangelische Kirche in der Rosenthaler Vorstadt im Berliner Ortsteil Mitte des gleichnamigen Bezirks. Sie gehört zur Evangelischen Kirchengemeinde am Weinberg im Kirchenkreis Berlin Stadtmitte.
Entstanden ist das Foto eigentlich nur wegen eines Falschparkers. Dieser stellte sein Auto direkt in der Kurve auf dem Zionskirchplatz ab, so dass die Straßenbahn nicht mehr vorbei kam. Normalerweise bietet sich einen der Blick so nicht, da die Bahn sonst zu schnell um der Ecke verschwunden ist.
Sie wurde 1873 im damaligen Norden der Stadt als Kirche einer Tochtergemeinde der St.-Elisabeth-Gemeinde eingeweiht. Der Architekt des vom preußischen König und späteren deutschen Kaiser Wilhelm I. als Votivkirche gestifteten Baus ist August Orth. Bedeutung erlangte die Kirche unter anderem als Wirkungsstätte von Dietrich Bonhoeffer, der hier als Pastor tätig war. Kurz vor dem Ende der DDR war die Zionskirche ein Zentrum der Opposition mit Kirche von unten und der Samisdat-Zeitschrift Umweltblätter. So wurde auch hier der Widerstand gegen das DDR-Regime geplant.
