mrwaterslide is not a tough guy, never has been, and most likely never will be. Is it possible to not be one and recognize one when one sees one? This guy looks like a tough guy to me. He may not have done the dirty work himself (in fact, he may be a doting grandfather and an interior designer, for all I know), but he looks like the kind of guy who would know where to get the dirty work done, and would not hesitate to send you to the sausage factory (I mean that literally) if he felt the occasion called for it.
Look at the expression of the woman on the left. This fellow has a reputation---she knows who he is, and she expects him to be a certain way. The formality of the picture, and the distance of the subject add to the impression of power and intimidation. The way this fellow is striding toward the camera, you feel like you'd better move out of the way before he gets there.
This is my Family Guy tribute. I know it's not that great. Chris's face is completely wrong but it's not bad for a quick sketch.

This guy is probably my favorite of Rita Repulsa's monsters, even if he looks oddly boob-filled, or oddly boil/blemish-filled. But EYES!

This guy had his little (maybe 1-year-old?) daughter on his shoulders, with kid headphones on. She was smiling and clapping away the whole time, and everyone around was laughing at how cute it was. I tried to get her head lined up with one of the 0s in LOVE2010, but there were too many people and I couldn't get to the right angle.
Some guy in a long dark entrance to a Jamaican bar... Such a cliche description, I know...

Early Christmas present for me! Lighting kit, we played some on thanksgiving day. I know, I was so excited I didn't think about the fold lines in the backdrop but aren't my guys handsome!
This is the guy who rode the triceratops (www.flickr.com/photos/soiledpointofview/8597153412/), but before that he was hanging out, discarded, at the foundation of an old tailing mill south of Beatty, NV. Here he is leaning up against some sturdy rebar. Now he protects my ficus, when not doing modeling gigs.
