Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament. This endeavor is celebrated every year by bonfires and fireworks displays. :-)
Guy Fawkes Day found us in Wales in the Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno. There was a fireworks display over the harbor that was most impressive, especially for a small town -- certainly far more than we were expecting. At the end, we found out how they pay for it (or at least one of the ways): they had the town volunteer firefighters standing there with buckets as the crowds left the waterfront, soliciting donations for next years'. We were more than happy to pitch in.
This was my first attempt to photograph fireworks. I used the fireworks setting on the camera and propped it up on the ground as a tripod. I'm sure if I played with it (or had an SLR) I could get better results, but I was reasonably pleased with these.

While in Russia recently, I picked up a ФЭД 5B (FED 5v) camera at a market in St Petersburg for $30. I had no idea if it worked or not (or, to be perfectly honest, how to operate a rangefinder camera... :) but I loaded a roll of cheap film into it, strapped it to the back of my motorbike and filled it up over the course of the trip. The results are interesting - there's mysterious light leaks that appear then suddenly vanish a few photos later, strange blue lines, and my ineptitude at operating the camera - underexposed shots, double exposures where I didn't wind the frame on properly... but some of the results are pretty cool. I think so, anyway ;)
This is a photo that I took of a sunset and of a boy. For my main stacked photos I did I did a cloud stack of the sunset. When I took that photo I did time intervals of one photo every minute for about 50 minutes, thus I got 50 photos. When I got those I stacked them on top of each other and out came the cloud image. Once I got that image I decided to do a double exposure with a portrait. I took a portrait photo in the studio and once I got that I layered on the stacked sunset image to create the double exposer.
