Looking across the Hudson towards Haverstraw - the white hangar is where a helicopter landing pad resides and a good point to fly out of to get to Manhattan without dealing with the metro area air traffic
I think I'm over the Gulf coast? Turning to a new heading. I had to rely on my timer and knew I had a poor estimation of my TAS so I basically made an educated guess. Still no towering clouds *sigh*
Dodging trees and road lamps on short final - barely making out the paved section of the turf field in time to try and aim for it
Terrain!! After so much flatness, even a little bit is a sight for sore eyes. That there is the Big Sioux River
Time to put up the visor - can finally see the horizon again with my own eyes! The Black Hills become apparent on the horizon
Also clearing the power lines that run south of the airfield which were not noted as obstacles on the charts - they are there but not this high. Ah well, made for a more exciting departure!
Further north, keep the Hudson well to my left to stay out of the Bravo airspace surrounding Albany. Catskill mountains off in the distance and just over them above my plane is a green nav light I think is Andrew taking a more direct route
Staring down the trench of the Grand Canyon. Is this where they modeled the Independence Day F-18 chase scene after? Looks possible
Back to AP as I climb and aim towards the far point of the island around which I can line up for the airport
Didn't explore too much with the sun getting low but look forwards to some low-level flying to enjoy the details around here
Taking a close look at the amphitheater where I spent 3 years working on the Batman Show and Fright Fest as a stunt performer and technician. Fun times!
Oooof - my indicated airspeed is 110kts but my GPS tells me I'm only traveling 86kts over the ground. Heck of a wind blowing out of the west
