A good example off how DOF can make or brake your photo.
Normally you would want the flower to be sharp/ focussed completely. So this pic. could be regarded a failure.
It however serves perfectly to explain a little about DOF. Looking at the bottom-left leaf from tip to flower hart, it goes from blurry, to focussed, to blurry. (view large to see it a little better) The fucussed part is what is referred to as DOF. In this case I used F2.8, the max aperture possible resulting in the smallest DOF. Had I used a smaller aperture (bigger F#) the DOF would have increased, showing more of the flower in focus.
Note that tip of the leaf was only 2-3 mm away from the lens.

After chasing an HP (high-precipitiation) supercell that pushed through Champaign County Illinois, I drove Southbound in attempt to catch up with the SErn end of the storm, losing luck and ending up staying in the S part of the county for some scenery as well as other photography opportunity.
I never fail to realize how awesome railroad tracks are. Although I am not a true-born artist, I have learned a bit in my years of doodling and Highschool art classes, that there are vanishing points with everything you take a picture of or decide to doodle, especially if in landscape form...the horizon can only go on forever in a photograph or painting, etc. although railroad tracks break that rule ;)
This picture was originally captured using Landscape color setting in full color on the Canon EOS 60D. It looks way better in black & white though. :)
Facing W along the tracks, dark boundary-based clouds containing smooth textures were blanketed across the sky, while the sun shined directly underneath the textures creating a natural atmospheric optic phenomena, "crepuscular rays."
I believe this was somewhere between the Savoy and Philo areas.

The Lafayette Building, located at 144 W. Lafayette Blvd. in downtown Detroit is in danger of being demolished.
Since being abandoned in 1997, the city of Detroit, the owners of the structure, have failed to mothball the historic 1924 building. After pieces of the facade fell off the building recently, the city rushed to the decision to demolish the Lafayette.. An RFP has been released for demolition.
Preservationists are scurrying to quickly get something done. We may have a huge hole in the downtown streetscape if the community does not act fast.
