This was a shot I had been longing to do when I was last down in Schierke, this is a stone's throw away from the apartment I was staying in. Unexpectedly it was a very unseasonably cold evening and I spent the majority of the LE pacing up and down. It was also a very clear night so that said I was happy for no heat distortion and the stars in all their glory could be seen perfectly.

LE star shots can be tricky in exposed areas, luckily there were a few street lamps and so I aimed for the furthest one to get an auto focus, then switched the lens back to manual before setting off the shutter, which in this case was for 20 minutes or there about.

If stuck for focus points in the dark, either use a powerful laser pointer, a torch which can be adjusted to a narrow band which you can aim at a tree or a relatively far away object or even better still, set up the camera to point in a general direction, take a run with the torch, switch it on and leave it on the ground, head back and get your focus aiming at the torch. Switch back to manual and you will have good sharp focus for your image.

If all above fails, use the LV display and zoom in on something light, manually then focus until the light source is smallest on the screen, that should just about do it but it's sometimes pure guess work. I've seen so many potentially great night time shots wrecked because of bad focus, there's quite a few little cheats to by this problem.

We're off from Monday, I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! :)

After this amazing hike, we finally admitted we were getting old. Even though the weather was terrible, even our legs had failed us, and the rain did not stop us from wanting to reach the summit. The wind did it! And we could not fight mother nature like in our younger days.

Just few dried leaves, seeds an a feather can't hide this painted turtle.

There are places where you simply stand out without being aware, hiding is a challenge :).

No words can describe how empty I feel inside.

Used for the sake of others future.

Mistreated for the way I am.

Enough it is!

Dont pull yourself back for others cause they arent gonna do anything for you.

Stand up for yourself and let the others fail without you.

Cause at the end... Thats what they deserve.

After having our first warm day of this spring, which short lived, a cold front came in with rain and freezing rain. I hope this yellow daffodils will survive.

is now the Thanksgiving Cactus...

This plant is over 20+ years old and has lived in the same long 'window box' pot all these years... and it never fails to send up the most beautiful flowers multiple times a year!

There is usually one red flower that blooms... I haven't seen it yet!

MECH: BALACLAVA!! CARRiE [10 Laundry] RARE

Shooting a little action at Barona Drags, this car and its owner were having a tough day. Three times to the line, it failed each time. The last time, the gentleman (I presume to be the owner) just walked off in disgust as the car slowly started its way down the track.

Ready to land after a failed attempt to dive bomb the snow for its prey. The Great Grey Owl loves fence posts for the simple fact it is closer to the mouse. This one was at a weird angle crisscrossing the fence I was standing next to, didn't feel like straddling 4 strands of barbed wire: been there, done that and all I managed to get is a hole in the crotch of my jeans with no shot to show for it. The bone chilling (50km) wind made me shiver as I was standing in the snow bank with a handheld camera waiting for some kind of movement. Meanwhile, the sun was going down stealing the last light of the day. You definitely have to be patient when shooting owls. Although, not the best shot, I do like the way the tail is fanned out and the look on her face as the lucky mouse got away.

After flapping and running along the water for a bit and not getting airborne it gave up and dove under the surface. Must have been embarrassed with a boat load of people watching.

I had high hopes for this Monarch larva to make it to the next stage of metamorphosis, but alas, it ran out of gas I guess and failed to complete the pupa construction. It's a very sad image and I thought hard about posting it, but in the end I guess I wanted to show exactly how challenging, fragile and dear the full life cycle from egg to caterpillar to pupa to butterfly really is. If you need orientation, it's hanging by the butt end. There are still a number of larvae chomping away, and a few have headed up the garage wall to hang in the eves. Honestly, I'll be thrilled if my perfect pupa I posted yesterday makes it.

This film, which expired when I was a child, never fails to impress. Some of the photos came out spotty, but most were of good quality.

For several years now I have been out in nature to observe the small, beautiful kingfisher and, if possible, to photograph him. I need a lot of patience because the magnificent blue shimmering bird is extremely small and clever. So I tried countless times to get as close to it as possible, but mostly failed. Last year the winter was so cold that the snow stayed on the trees for longer, which created the best conditions for capturing the beautiful blue of the delicate bird with my camera. After many ice-cold mornings spent outside, I finally managed to photograph the kingfisher where I think it looks most beautiful, on a snow-covered tree. After this considerable effort, I was so grateful to have encountered the most colorful and beautiful bird in my area in its kingdom.

I hope you like this picture with my personal favorite bird. If you consider that there are still about 500 pairs of kingfishers in the whole of Switzerland, then I must be more than happy to have encountered one out there in the beautiful nature of my homeland.

Sure it was trailing...but having never seen this one of a kind unit before I did my best to capture a clean roster shot here since this was a rather cool bonus. Iowa Interstate ES44AC 516 was blt. Dec. 2014 as part of the regional's third order of modern GE road power. It was specially painted in this Rock Island style red and yellow scheme as part of the IAIS' 30th anniversary celebrations.

It is seen here switching across South Sixth Street adjacent to the historic Rock Island depot.
