Wheatgrass, mint, orange and pipneapple juice!
Looks like alien slime, but it's not a bad combination!
Nice and rare pepper crusted tuna steak, garlicky aioli proved a fantastic match for the tuna fishiness. Not quite sure what the green oil was though. $22, I think.
Even richer than the hot choloate, but it is not a souffle. Chocolate fondant is a more appropriate name. Very indulgent.

Roasted Beetroot, Radish, Celery Salad, on a bed of water cress and topped with haloumi crisps.
I love the intense beetroot-y flavour of roasted beetroot!
And a cream of watercress soup to go with it.
Omelette of Glass Noodles, Dried Shrimp and Preserved Turnip.
An Oriental twist to a Tortilla Espanola (Spanish omelette)! I was lucky it came out quite fluffy!
Penne with Pumpkin, Snow Peas and Pinenuts, at Sweet Mamas.
Good, but bit too rich with the cream.

Sand Crab in red bucket. I adjusted the white balance with The GIMP and it exaggerated the colours of the sand crab, but I liked it! :)
Takashimizu sake - small AUD11 - Kenzan
Smooth easy drinking sake. A bit too easy to drink! :)
Sake is always good with Japanese food, especially seafood.
For my birthday, Julia and I went to Kenzan, supposedly one of the better Japanese restaurants in town.
The decor was simple and mostly pine, but the food was quite good!
Still, the maki sushi (rolls) from Suzuran might be better, and definitely better value for money.

Korean Daikon Radish with Dried Prawns
Nice and tender daikon radish that we got from a Korean grocery. It's shape was more like a turnip rather than long and skinny like a daikon radish.
yum! :)
The lurid green one turned out to be quite a refreshing lime sponge with a raspberry mousse centre!
Looks like a good selection of spirits! :)
We took Aunt Lee Leng to Mr Wolf to try some modern, creative pizzas and we left happy and more than satisfied. But Julia and I felt that the prices, which I have forgotten to note, seemed a bit much, and not quite commensurate with the dishes.

Asian Beef Salad - Sapore, Chadstone
Grilled beef that has been marinated in dark soy / kecap manis. Quite a nice contrast to the tart salad dressing.
Oyako Don 亲子井 at Menya Ramen.
A bit too oily because the chicken was par-boiled in oil (拖油) beforehand and then reheated with the egg omelette.

Julia's dad made Minced Pork and Dried Oyster Congee, or savoury rice porridge..
A simple substitution of leftover puff pastry for the 油条 completes the dish.
Hot, smooth and silky, perfect for a cold Winter dinner. Julia's dad added dried mandarin peel 陈皮干 to balance out any fishy-ness or gamey-ness from the dried oysters.

Zam Zam bain marie, full of spicy curry goodness!
I like the uncluttered blackboard menu. Colourful, yet not garish.

Roast Turkey Plate - Aunty Shirley's Pre-Christmas Dinner
The turkey was nice and juicy with a sauce made from the pineapple juice basting mix. Served with some roasted vegetables and a dollop of cranberry sauce.
Char-grilled Angus beef tenderloin, colcannon potatoes and port wine jus.
A perfectly medium rare chunk of Angus beef was rich and er... beefy!
The Colcannon mash was buttery and smooth, accented by the occasional crunch of fresh vegetables.
Julia loved the jus that was served with it, but I thought it was a bit too sweet with a strong kecap manis (Indonesian dark sticky soy sauce) taste.

Fantastic weather for a dive.
Peter & I went to Rye Pier for a dive!
It was fantastic! It was probably the best dive we've had from Rye Pier.
The water was a balmy 21C and we dived for 48 minutes!
We saw lots of fish, including
- Wobbegong or Port Jackson Shark 1 - 1.5m
- 2 seahorses ~40cm
- a school of squid hovering and darting at prey ~30cm
- lots of Toothbrush leatherjackets with orange spots like a giraffe ~15cm
- triggerfish with black spots ~10cm
- various larger triggerfish ~30cm
- lots of goatfish ~30-60cm.
