Red Flag 20, Changhai No.2 Camea Factory China 1997.

The 1977 Red Flag 20 (Hong Qi 20 红旗20) is a Chinese copy of the Leica M4. Reportedly only 182 were made in a period from 1971 to 1976 when production officially ended. The cameras were made on the orders of Chiang Ching, the last wife of Mao Tzeo Dong. With the camera are a f=50mm 1:1.4, a f=35mm 1:1.4 and a f=90mm 1:2.0, all copies of Leitz lenses.

A bit of a Middle Eastern flavour to the pizzas.

Served with a chickpea, rocket and tomato salad.

The best was still the garlic, tomato and haloumi cheese pizza. Very similar to an Italian Margherita, but without the basil.

Quite an interesting dish of stir fried squid with 银针粉/老鼠粉(rice noodles) with laksa paste. The squid was just cooked and the laksa paste was quite a good balance of spices!

I got caught in the sudden downpour, so I decided to check out the iPod Touch at Myer

Melbourne Apple Shop. The iPod Touch is basically an iPhone, without the phone.

I liked the nice bright shiny screen. The touch-sensitive screen wasn't bad. The lack of scroll bars in Safari was a bit weird at first, but scrolling by a flick or a finger was quite intuitive. When you reach the bottom, or try to go past the top, the screen bounces, as if it were rubbery! :)

I managed to read most of (the first page of) Gizmodo using my thumb to thumb/scroll the page.

The onscreen keyboard was quite easy to use, even with my fat fingers, but for heavy typing, the two thumb approach didn't quite work out.

One of the primary vectors of miniaturization is in the electronics (vs the Kodak 4800 for example). In this <1 inch thick Casio, all of the electronics fit on a 1.25” square double sided board (marked above).

At this size of camera, the flash capacitor is one of the largest components by volume. The camera is roughly: 40% 3x zoom module, 20% LCD screen, 10% battery, 10% flash+capacitor, 10% electronics and flex circuit, 10% structural plastic and metal with viewfinder.

As I was doing some spring cleaning, I found some forgotten pictures of China and Japan. Here they are.

I still regret that I didn't ask about those plaques. As far as I know they're suppose to protect from ghosts and ask a favor of the Kuixing god of literature and writing (hence red color and the "Kui" character on them). But I may be wrong...(as I was when I first inserted the pic.)

Cute and quirky menu, but the prices aren't correct. I got charged AUD10 for a stone bowl dolsot bibimbap, and the regular one was only AUD9.50 :)

Soggy pizza, undercooked seafood. We sent it back for some more cooking. At least the seafood was fresh...

Beef Stew made in a slow cooker. I cooked it with beef stock but I topped it up with water because I was afraid it would dry out. In the end I had to reduce the sauce. Very good for throwing whatever I had in the fridge! The beef ribs wasn't bad in a stew, almost melting and falling off the bone. They were a bit on the fatty side though.

It also had a tin of tomatoes, carrots, celery, baby onions, bay leaf and olives.

I served it with steamed cabbage to provide a foil for he richness.

Lebanese Sausages with Couscous and Spinach and Potato Soup.

I got the Lebanese sausages from a halal butcher in Sydney Road, Brunswick. They were quite lean and very tasty! I think they were a mixture of lamb and beef.

I made a simple youghurt mint sauce to go with the sausages and it proved to be a nice match of the cooling mint to the savoury meaty sausages.

There were comments that the food presentation and quality has improved from a year ago. Perhaps due to me putting them here?! :)
