红烧蟹肉翅 Shark Fin Soup
I thought that it would be rude to protest, since it was part of a wedding banquet.
Kenzan's shop front is definitely nothing spectacular.
For my birthday, Julia and I went to Kenzan, supposedly one of the better Japanese restaurants in town.
The decor was simple and mostly pine, but the food was quite good!
Still, the maki sushi (rolls) from Suzuran might be better, and definitely better value for money.

Braised Kurobuta Pork Belly with a Honey and Pepper Glaze and Crispy Ears - Comme
The pork belly was succulent (read fatty) and tender, probably from a slow braising, followed by a short roasting. I'm not sure how much of the sublime taste and melting texture can be attributed to the Kurobuta breed though, but it was definately a treat!
Crunchy ears provided a contrast to the soft pork. Also braised but perhaps in a dark soy.
The use of freshly shelled peas, broadbeans and French beans was a nice nod to the arrival of Spring.

The Oporto Grilled Chicken Salad isn't bad, but they could have added a bit more spice to the chicken.
Lots of Thai ethnic Chinese that spoke Thai!
---
A very Thai place. A lot of their customers spoke Thai. Unfortunately, we found the food too sweet (sugary).
We then took a walk along Mordialloc Pier. A cool change from the hot and sticky days we've just had.

I got some juicy peaches from the Victoria Market yesterday. They went very well with tuna, some bitter leaves and and walnut rye bread.
Julia made a yummy (cold) Zaru Soba for our picnic at Middle Brighton Beach. Perfect for a warm 29C day!
We also had cherries from out cherry picking the day before!
梅菜扣肉. Tender pork, but unfortunately not as melting as I would have hoped. The hint of mandarin rind was a nice touch.

The Chadstone Shopping Centre food court seems to be slowly moving towards Asia.
Urban Asia just opened in time for the pre-Christmas rush, so we decided to give it a shot.
It's not bad for shopping centre food court food, but the bun bo hue was missing the handful of herbs and salady leaves, and the vegetarian fried rice noodles wsa oversimplified compared to the meat versions.

Chicken Parmigiana - The Corner Hotel, Richmond.
Nothing fantastic. $16. Then again, neither was the $12 pizza a colleague had. The rib-eye steak looked good at $20, and so did the $15 Corner Burger .
