As the Small Engines Gala freight special was to remain at Rawtenstall Station for the day to provide short to-and-fro trips the rarely used third line adjacent to New Hall Hey Road was being used. It needed a bit of attention to allow its use.

Taken at Tanfield workshops. Marley Hill engine shed, built in 1854 and in colliery use until 1970, is where the loco fleet is maintained. The Railways original purpose was the movement of coal from nearby collieries to ships oÂn the River Tyne.
