I bought one of Suzuki's Infamous Rotary RE-5 Motorcycle in 1975, It was actually pretty quick for a Heavy Motorcycle and could have set the “G” stock record in Motorcycle drag racing if it weren't for the rule that you would have to tear the engine down to claim it.
The basic design is a century-old one. Felix Wankel himself was a German engineer who came up with his version of a rotary engine in the 1920s. Being busy with warmongering on behalf of the Nazi party, he didn't get the chance to develop his vision too far until 1951, when German automaker NSU invited him to design a prototype. The Wankel is the most common and successful rotary engine design, and the only one to make it into mass production. In the early 70s, Mazda envisioned an entire lineup of Wankel-powered cars, a dream that was smashed by the 1973 oil crisis.
The Concorde had 4 afterburning turbojet engines that put out lots of thrust and noise, and burned lots of fuel. I miss it. I wish it were still in service so I could save up for a ticket and fly first class to London or Paris at Mach 2.

On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, the Santa Clara City Fire Dept. responded to a 3-alarm fire on Saratoga Ave.
This appeared to be an attic fire on the 2nd floor, "D" side with severe water & smoke damage to units on the 1st floor.
Santa Clara Engine 1 was built by 3D on an ALF Eagle chassis.

A fine oscillatory steam engine ,spirit fired with safety valve , whistle and regulator valve. The boiler side plates appear to come from a Bowman model but the engine with its displacement lubricator and brass flywheel do not look like any commercial model I have seen.
By chance I saw this vintage fire engine parked outside an auto spares store in Darwin. I stopped to take a few photos.

This was built aimed squarely at the FIA World Rally Group B regulations. The regulations requires at least 200 road going version to be built, Ford complied and laid up parts for a further 20 cars, using the expertise of Reliant Motors at Tamworth to build the GRP bodies. The car was powered by a 1,8litre single turbocharged Ford Cosworth BDT engine producing 250bhp in road trim and in race trim between 350 and 450bhp. Kits were available to boost the output of the road cars to around 300bhp. The car proved very nimble but its power to weight ratio and alarming turbo lag made it a difficult car in which to compete or drive with spirit. Its best result being 3rd place for works driver Kalle Grundel in the 1986 Rally of Sweden but tragedy struck in the next rally the Rally of Portugal when a RS200 crashed killing three spectators, followed shortly afterwards by an accident in the Hessen Rally in Germany, involving the Swiss Formula One driver Marc Surer in which his friend and co-driver was killed. Other accident had occurred during Group B rallies and the FIA abandoned the Formula at the end of 1986.
At the time Ford had been planning an evolution version of the car, the BDT-E powered by a 2137cc engine developed by Brian Hart of Hart engines, quoted power figures vary wildly from 550-815bhp with upgraded brakes and suspension. The ban on Group B should have curtailed this development but more than a dozen were run from August 1986 to October 1992 in the FIA European Rallycross Championships, in fact the 1991 title was taken by Norway's Martin Schanche in a 650bhp Ford RS200 E2
