Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to a multi alarm house fire in Cupertino, May 2011. After a reported explosion in or near the garage fire fighters arrived to find the garage, 2 cars in the driveway and the front shrubs blazing away. Ultimately the house was almost entirely destroyed, and the neighbouring property on the Delta exposure suffered extensive damage. Firebrands sparked the roof on an appartment complext two streets away, further complicating the morning.

Santa Clara County Engine 2 is a 2000 KME Pumper with a 1250 GPM Pump.

This is a photograph that I took at the Pallot Steam, Motor & General Museum in Jersey in May 2013. It’s a 1904 Ransomes, Simms & Jefferies traction engine, and the Pallot Museum website has this to say about 'Dolly May' - named after the wife of Lyndon Charles 'Don' Pallot:

'This engine was brought over to Jersey soon after the Occupation, to be used for soil sterilization at La Valeuse Farm, St Brelade. Fortunately, the ‘workings’ remained intact and eventually it was ‘put out to grass’. It was only when the scrap man had been contacted on several occasions in the 1960’s and had failed to collect the machine that, in desperation, the owners got got in touch with the late Don Pallot, founder of the Steam Museum, and a deal was agreed for the sum of £12.10 shillings.'

Joseph Vida set a speed record by flying from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 20 seconds, averaging 3,418 kilometers (2124 miles) per hour. At the flight’s conclusion, they landed at Washington Dulles International Airport and turned the plane over to the Smithsonian.

More than 5000 of these were built since 1913. They were used for goods trains.

One engine at each side of the field and the plough is pulled back and forth on a chain. You can see the chain drum under the traction engine. There were right-hand and left-hand engines.

Rolls-Royce have the practices of naming their gas turbine engine after rivers eg: Avon, Spey, Dart, Tay, Trent etc. There were some exceptions as I don't think there was a river named RB211 :-)

Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on Constitution Ave, Monte Sereno in June, 2012. Arriving units reported the house was fully engulfed upon their arrival. Both occupants were out and the fire was fought defensively, with additional units patroling the neighborhood on ember patrol.
