This beautifully restored steam engine was the last to carry a steam train from my hometown (to Dębica). After many years of abandonment in Kraków it got to Skarżysko-Kamienna where it acts as a technology monument and an interesting addition to the everyday station life. It really is beautifully restored.

Bristol Barrow Road Jubilee 45682 Trafalgar has an army of cleaners preparing it for the special to Bourneville, Birmingham in March 1962. In the 1960's the railway workforce was far more intensive than it is today. 45682 went on to be the last of Barrow Road's Jubilees in service, being withdrawn at the beginning of June 1964. 45690 Leander and 45699 Galatea, both former Barrow Road engines survive in preservation and are currently working on the mainline.

Middleton Top is the last surviving complete winding engine house, built by the Cromford and High Peak Railway Company. It sat on the 3rd of 9 incline planes rising from High Peak Junction on the Cromford Canal, and lifted the line a further 252ft beyond the others to nearly 1,000ft above sea level.
It was built by the Butterley Company in 1829 and the building was used until 1963. It's now normally in steam, monthly during the summer months, although not when we visited, as the boiler house was being rebuilt. Inside are the original pair of beam engines.
Shortly before we sold this engine in April 2006, I took this photo.

Both died at the hospital as a result of their injuries after all rescussitative measures were taken by the Emergency Trauma staff at San Francisco General Hospital.
Days later firefighters from around California and around the country gathered to pay their respects during a funeral service. In this sequence we see some of the equipment from Santa Clara County forming up to join in a procession after the services.

I rode the back step on this engine. Think about hanging on doing 50mph down the outer drive on a change of quarters to engine 83 on a cold winter night all alone. (About 6 miles) If you think that you would not bounce up and down on that step you are wrong. Add to that you are by yourself with the other men inside the cab. That is what the new guy had to do.
Watching the Super Tuesday primary/caucus results tonight, and also checking the coolant level in my car. I got a warning a couple days ago that the level was low in the coolant expansion tank, so I topped it up and things seem to be holding.
