One of 200 hens from a small egg farm. The farmer used a metal leg band for identification purposes. As the hens grew, the leg band did not. The farmer will not be using these again.

The hens are part of Animal Place's Rescue Ranch program in which farmed animals come to the sanctuary, are rehabilitated, and then placed into new homes.

After treatment, these hens will go onto new, loving homes.

The Irish 24 Hours Championships took place on the 6th and 7th July 2012 at the Sportsplex in Bangor, Co Down, Northern Ireland. This was in conjunction with the Energia 24 Hour Race which is the only 24 hour race in Ireland. The race started at 18:45 on Friday 6th July 2012 and ended at 18:45 on Saturday 7th July 2012. There were three options for competitors: the 24 hour race, the 12 hour race, and the relay option (4 members per team - each doing two hours stints).

This was my first time to take part in an event like this - I was a member of the Donadea Relay Running Team. Each relay member had to run 2 hours on the track and then had a break of 6 hours.

There is so much to be written about the 24 hours of racing. First is the dedication, committment, the will, the strength of the people involved in the 24 hour and 12 hour race. They are example to anyone who says "I cannot do it..". Second, is the weather. Never have we seen such conditions for running where a moonsoon came in and rested over the running track for approximately 14 hours. Tents were flooded, the track got flooded in one corner, runners flirted with hypothermia as supplies of running gear were severly strained. To see the photographs of the time from about noon onwards of the 7th one would need convincing that this was the country, never mind the same race. Third is the the support crews and the support from the event management. From the people who handed out drinks, the precision timing people, Bangor Sports complex staff, race organisers - there was no such thing as teams - EVERYONE helped EVERYONE. Finally to everyone involved as a whole who made this a very special event - the mix of emotions, friendship, competition, etc. Don't judge a 24 hour ultra race until you have seen one. The overwhelming response from everyone involved was that they would be back next year!

this caught my eye as i left the vampires' office (routine bloods for annual physical- TMI?). the lovely blue artifact is a shiny sparkly piece of plastic/glass which has been so long in the parking lot that it has melted into the tar. NO points for collecting this trash since it would need a knife or small pry bar; so...... we'll count it as parking lot art.

hey, tar is sticky stuff. i'm gonna make this a 2-fer :)

This is my first posted photo employing the use of my 580EX. I have recently fount it to be exceptionally useful as a fill flash for macro shots.

The Canon 100mm macro lense has a USM motor, which means when it's used on the 20D, it can return distance information (for use with the flash). Sometimes I wonder if that flash isn't smarter than the camera and I combined...it's almost hard to take a bad picture with it.

Hollow. Double layered egg with glass bead. No stand. $55

This tree has literally grown through the fence. The fence, as far as I could tell, is intact. What probably happened is that the tree easily passed through the fence when it's trunk was thin and as the trunk grew wider, the fence cut into it. Strangely though, the tree trunk seems to have simply grown around the cut embedding the fence within it.

Strolling around Lydford Gorge and came across this log/seat with thousands of coins stuck in it.
