The Beachcomber or ‘Stone Me’ and Others
I have over the years come across a few of these stone characters, and not only confined to the East Coast of England where I found the majority. They have been discovered in The States, France and Kent. A bit of a random order I know. Some have come home with me but in the main I have left them in situ. No stones were harmed in the making of these images and the ones who did come home did it willingly.
There has been a development, I have noticed faces looking at me embedded in other materials. I know, a bit left field. But I thought they needed to be identified. I haven’t yet seen any walls with ears but you never know. Is ‘Big Brother’ still watching?

A superb lp mini break with Quornflake, Mart and Phill in Llanberis. The slate quarry there is insanely massive with far too much to shoot in one evening. The day was spent reccying all the nooks and crannies which in itself was a mammoth task. When night fell we headed to our first spot and got cracking.
It was was great to get out with you all chaps and quality to finally meet Mart.
I think we will return here as this really doesn't do the location any justice and there is so much left to shoot including the most insane but hard to access spot I've ever seen. Here's to next time.

These three, which are all of driftwood washed up on the beaches, are the first in a series of some of the stuff that I love to look at in detail, as I wander around the coastal habitats I visit near home. As I can't go there just now, I've been trawling my archives, and (I hope) they are all images that I haven't posted before.

Framed by steeply towering peaks and embedded in the legendary magic forest, the idyllic Hintersee lies in the Bavarian mountaineering village of Ramsau.
Leake Street Tunnel is one of London’s coolest street art spots. Tucked away underneath Waterloo station, it’s an ever-changing canvas of colourful murals.
Leake Street graffiti tunnel is one of London’s not-so-hidden gems. This 300 metre tunnel is the city’s largest legal wall and has been a bastion of London’s street art scene since 2008.
Leake Street Tunnel wasn’t always a legal wall. Before 2008 it was just a dank and grimy tunnel squirreled beneath Kings Cross Station.
That all changed when British street art superstar Banksy (yes, the Banksy) decided to hold a street art festival called Cans Festival down in the tunnel.
Banksy invited the biggest and brightest names on the international street art scene to come down and put up a piece of work in the tunnel. And that was it – Leake Street was no longer dank and grimy, but instead a bold, colourful and cool place where artists could showcase their work.
Since then, Leake Street graffiti tunnel has been flying the flag for the London street art scene. The fact that this is a legal wall means that artists can work in peace and that no two visits are ever the same.
Leake Street Tunnel is a short walk away from Waterloo Station. It takes about five minutes to walk it from the station via York Road.

Pholiota squarrosa, commonly known as the shaggy scalycap, the shaggy Pholiota, or the scaly Pholiota, is a species of mushroom in the family Strophariaceae. Common in North America and Europe, it is often an opportunistic parasite, and has a wide range of hosts among deciduous trees, although it can also infect conifers. It can also live as a saprobe, deriving nutrients from decomposing wood. The mushroom is typically found growing in clusters at the base of trees and stumps. Both the cap and the stem are covered in small, pointed scales that are pointed downward and backward. The crowded gills are yellowish, then later rust-brown. The mushroom has an odor that, depending on the author, has been described as resembling garlic, lemon, radish, onion, or skunk. It has a strong taste, resembling radishes. Once thought to be edible, it is now considered and known to be poisonous, especially if consumed in combination with alcohol. The mushroom contains unique chemicals thought to help it infect plants by neutralizing defensive responses employed by them. The very similar P. squarrosoides differs in having a paler cap that is sticky between the scales, and smaller spores.

The old headstone on the right is partially embedded in the large tree trunk. The tree must have grown slowly swallowing the stone.

Uncoupling from its train in order to pull two empty flat car from the Marmen track at right, CN L561 is passing the Matane station name sign, still proudly showing it's Canada & Gulf Terminal Railway roots, more than 50 years after CN acquired the 36-mile long "Matane Territory".
With one last customer to serve before heading back toward Mont-Joli, their home terminal, the crew is anxious to finally get rid of rain suits and heading home for a well-deserved diner.
