I have been through some changes through life but have always kept my locks. My hair is in the best health it has ever been in. July 9,1998 was when I just let go of the vanity and went back to my roots. I lost a lot of length to them from dyeing them 3yrs ago with commercial dye. From then on I decided to stay away from store bought chemical laden products and keep it 100% natural. I still know that I will have my locks til the day I die. I have a blog about my dread journey. Just go to my profile cause I will be putting up the web address for it tonight. Only have about 3 or 4 days worth of blogging but intend to write in it more.
This was close enough to the anniversary I decided to stick it in as I liked the way the bun looks. It stays up like this a lot now, or back in a plait.
Dreadlock pics and how-to info can be found in my book: Dread Mama: Beautiful, Natural Successful Locks
The beings of this planet make plans
There are ways in which the evil will work
Time and again you have to step away
Retreat and be
Negative words that was said
The competitiveness of the social scene
It is quite mean
And cold
To shrug off the layers of insults
To iradicate all of the dirty looks
Criticisms can be like sharp knives
Stabbing deep into the heart
I start to mend as I begin to break
The dam did fall that day
Mother Nature grabbed my soul
She craddled me in her arms
I recharged and reinvented myself
Within the solitude of nature
I reclaimed my heart
I absorbed power from the trees
The flowers danced in delight
I took flight amongst the birds
I can always fly
Within the confines of my mind
I think about the one
And know that I will never be done
Here you can see the elastics wrapped around the dreads in the back holding them around my own buns, and the ones braided in in the front. They're double-ended, so I braid half of it with my own hair and leave the other half loose.

I made a cool dreadlock curtain for my art house, similar to those beaded curtains. It took quite awhile to make them, but it was worth it. They look so cool. I also got a new door mat, and the colors matched my art house perfectly.
