I have been wearing ponytail dreads for years that I made for myself, and always get compliments. So, I've decided to make them for others.

These Ponytail dreadlocks are perfect for the colorful & wild at heart who has to look "proper" at times. Made from hand-dyed felted wool, these multi-colored dreads are attached to a ponytail holder, making them removable from your hair. Wear them down with your ponytail, or wrap them around in a bun and secure with a hair stick. For a hair stick, you can use an actual hair stick, a chop stick, paintbrush, pencil, or double-pointed knitting needle.

I cut out the extensions (and combed out the real dreads underneath) of two dreads. When I got my extensions I have lots of loose hair at my temples and had her dread them. They stuck out all wonky and DROVE ME NUTS!

I was starting to miss combing my hair and now I have so much hair on both sides that I can get that brush fix :)

I am surprised to see how healthy my hair is after being in dreads!

Eventually that tangled mess on your head does take shape.

Regular dread pic, locks, hanging down, front in little twists. I love my hair, it's so easy to do at this point and has been for years.

Oldie but a goodie. Pulled this batch out of the archives today for safe-keeping online

I have an old pair of stockings that I'm not sure I ever really wore. I bought them loving the texture and design, but I don't know that I ever really wore them.

I cut a section of the leg off to wear around my dreads. It's a little too tight (I'm hoping it'll stretch) for wearing as a headband, but has turned out to be perfect for use as a ponytail or bun holder!

Repurposing Rocks!

I honesly can't figure out how I got to two months already. LOL. I did dye them a lighter shade of blonde around week 6 and since then they have exploded into action. I have to rip every day now...There are a couple congos that have started that I am just letting go to see the process happen.

This would make a great c.d cover.....yeh for Bob...bless his soul.

My friend shaved them off, this 2 I have for memory :P

this is what my hair looks like after i wash it.

10 month old dreadlocks

This gives a pretty decent look at them from the side and close-up. As you can see, the roots are pretty well developed and locking up. I still have quite a lot of the whispy, loose hair all over the place. But I like how it looks. Each phase has something different to love.

I've been experimenting with making polymerclay dreadlock beads.

What is it with my kids and mohawks? I-bop had one a few years ago and now T-bop. He was actually going to get his dreads cut off and have a close cut for summer, then he decided on this. It's a Dreadhawk! I love it, he reminds me of the lead singer from Fishbone.

Chillen with some particularly irie fellows in vancouver. These guys were very powerful, the kind of dudes that you can feel from halfway down the block.

Then here i am trying to look cool in this big furry coat but i've actually got the buttons aligned improperly....

doh.

One day later...I have what would be considered the middle band around my head completed. No wax or rubber bands. I'm just not going to stress over the whole process as I did previously. I haven't even used the flea comb - just a regular plastic comb with narrow teeth on it. BTW - my secret with the whole shampoo thing is this: I only use Planet brand dishsoap on my hair. Why??? 'Cuz they only have three ingredients in their soap. It's coconut oil based, which is, I believe, very similar to a certain major dread product company's shampoo (which I used to buy for my first set of dreads, which gets expensive when you're paying for that product to be shipped to you). It's easy to use, is biodegradable, hypoallergenic, and very inexpensive. In fact, I use it on the rest of my body, too. It lathers nicely, rinses very easily, and doesn't leave any residue or smell behind. Try it - you just might like it!!!

I was so excited to see this little goodie in my dread exchange package.
