I changed my outfit and now I seem to be a little Pippi (Longstocking/Langstrumpf) with a Rasta haircut (dreadlocks) ... it's really fun ...

We encountered this Sadhu or holy man early one morning in Jaisalmer, India. He is known locally as "the Sadhu who looks after the blind lady" and he kindly agreed to pose for our cameras in return for a donation for the lady.
A Sadhu's "jata" or dreadlocks, here twisted up in a crownlike bundle, are an important symbol of commitment to his life of devotion. The longer the dreadlocks, the longer his spiritual journey has been. With a touch of pride, he eventually took down his dreadlocks to show us. They reached to almost his knees, clearly representing many years of devotion.
Pushkar is one of the oldest existing cities of India. It lies on the shore of the Pushkar Sarovar (Lake). The date of its actual origin is not known, but legend associates Brahma with its creation. The city has many temples and ghats and has people from all over the world coming here. It has flourishing market with loads of tourists and pilgrims. This old Sadhu I spotted in one such market. Thick gray eyebrows and mustache, stubble and wearing head scarf, he looked stern and gave a very angry look to me showing displeasure at being shot!

10cc - "Dreadlock holiday"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUNTk5xsxk4
I was walkin′ down the street
Concentratin' on truckin′ right
I heard a dark voice beside of me
And I looked round in a state of fright
I saw four faces one mad
A brother from the gutter
They looked me up and down a bit
And turned to each other
I say
I don't like cricket oh no
I love it
I don't like cricket no no
I love it
Don′t you walk thru′ my words
You got to show some respect
Don't you walk thru′ my words
'Cause you ain′t heard me out yet.
Well he looked down at my silver chain
He said I'll give you one dollar
I said you′ve got to be jokin' man
It was a present from me mother
He said I like it I want it
I'll take it off your hands
And you′ll be sorry you crossed me
You′d better understand that you're alone
A long way from home.
And I say
I don′t like reggae no no
I love it
I don't like reggae
I love it
Don′t you cramp me style
Don't you queer me pitch
Don′t you walk thru' my words
'Cause you ain′t heard me out yet.
I hurried back to the swimming pool
Sinkin′ Pena Calarda
I heard a dark voice beside me say
Would you like something harder
She said I've got it you want it
My harvest is the best
And it you try it you′ll like it
And whollow in a Dreadlock Holyday.
And I say
Don't like Jamaica oh no
I love her
Don′t like Jamaica oh no
I love her oh yea
Don't you walk thru′ her words
You got to show some respect
Don't you walk thru' her words
′Cause you ain′t heard her out yet.
I don't like cricket
I love it Dreadlock Holiday
I don′t like reggae
I love it Dreadlock Holiday
Don't like Jamaica
I love her Dreadlock Holiday.

I feel so different without wearing my eyeliner. I guess I did get attached to it a bit. But I don't miss it that much.
I wanted dreadlocks for as long as I can remember but I never got around to it.. then I lost my hair from chemotherapy last year but it's growing back thicker & faster than ever.
I have almost 6 inches of natural dark curly hair right now - I'm wearing a dread wig in this self-portrait from an indoor tent set I built in January 2020, and I've been wearing another dark dreadlock wig I made from a normal wig, but I'm thinking it might soon be time to properly weave some in.
I try to regularly reinvent myself & experiment with identity through creative expression. I think for many, the fear of being ridiculed or judged for not dressing or looking a certain way stops them from expressing who they are or who they want to be, which is quite tragic considering we only have a certain number of years on this planet to make an impact and live with as much freedom and self-acceptance as possible.
But 34, (as I now am) or 74, it is never too late to reinvent yourself physically or mentally, or your values, just make sure you do so for yourself and no-one else.
I'm leaving them up for a bit until the roots look a bit better. I hate the bald spots right now, but I was told they will fuz up a bit and cover nicely. We did thick and thin dreads and left the front fringe undreaded and wispy. Love them!
Update: Just washed them in hot water and a little watered down dish soap to get the wax out. They feel SO much better and look SO much better! Little fuzzy, but I like them this way!
