Sometimes, beauty appears in silence.
A soft rainbow cuts across the valley below, barely visible beneath heavy skies. The slopes still glisten from the storm, while an alpine hut holds its quiet place above the forest.
Seen from the northern slopes above the Zillertal, this frame captures a fleeting moment – when shadow and color meet, and the storm gives way to grace.

My wife and I just returned from almost three weeks in the Eastern Sierra mountains of California. On our last full day we explored the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, where they have filmed literally hundreds of western movies. I was carrying my infrared camera, and as we hiked between two huge boulders, literally bigger than barns, I noticed a shaft of light coming through a slit in the rocks on the left. I had Maria position herself so that she was in that sliver of light. You can see the pattern of light on the boulder wall above her. Lately, they've been filming science fiction type movies here, and I think that infrared works well in that context.

This is inside Bristol Cathedral, Taken on a photography weekend with my friend Leo Smith.
The cathedral was only a few mins walk from the hotel. We we only had an hour at this location, and were delighted on entering the cathedral to find the morning sun bursting though the windows into the dusty air. It realy did look as dramatic as this in real life too!

Elle avance dans un monde qui n'existe pas encore.
Entre la lumière et le métal, entre le mouvement et la machine, cette silhouette semble surgir d'un futur où le corps demeure le dernier territoire de liberté. La combinaison évoque la technologie, les lignes rappellent les circuits, mais rien ne peut contenir l'énergie qui traverse chaque geste.
Le reggaeton est souvent associé à la puissance brute du rythme. Ici, il devient autre chose : une impulsion vitale, un langage physique qui dialogue avec l'imaginaire de la science-fiction. Chaque mouvement paraît répondre à une force invisible, comme si la danseuse captait un signal venu d'un horizon lointain.
Le faisceau de lumière qui la traverse ressemble à une porte ouverte sur un autre monde. Pourtant, ce n'est pas la technologie qui attire le regard, mais l'humanité qui persiste au cœur du dispositif. Une présence vibrante, déterminée, habitée.
Dans cette rencontre entre futurisme et expression corporelle, la danse devient poésie. Une poésie de l'élan, de la transformation et du mouvement perpétuel.
Parce qu'au-delà des machines, des écrans et des promesses technologiques, il restera toujours un corps pour rêver, ressentir et danser.
EN She moves through a world that does not yet exist.
Between light and metal, between movement and machine, this figure seems to emerge from a future where the body remains the last territory of freedom. Her suit suggests technology, its lines echoing circuitry, yet nothing can contain the energy flowing through every gesture.
Reggaeton is often associated with raw rhythm and power. Here, it becomes something else: a vital impulse, a physical language in conversation with science-fiction imagery. Every movement appears to answer an invisible force, as if the dancer were receiving a signal from a distant horizon.
The beam of light cutting across the scene feels like a gateway to another dimension. Yet it is not technology that commands attention, but the humanity that endures within it. A vibrant, determined presence, fully alive.
In this encounter between futurism and movement, dance becomes poetry. A poetry of momentum, transformation, and perpetual motion.
Because beyond machines, screens, and technological promises, there will always be a body willing to dream, to feel, and to dance.
I photographed this last Saturday. It is a fence which starts along the road and stops under water. In the barbwire there were all kinds of deteriorated things hanging in the wind, this is all filtered out of the water. The fence itself, it's rusty and old it is absolutely in decay.
An otherworldly view captured at night, showcasing dramatic lighting and shadows that create a surreal and eerie atmosphere. The play of light and mist adds a sense of mystery and wonder, making this scene a captivating piece of art.
Summer's End: Woven Armor: Modern mythology meets high fashion. Gold sequin cascades catch the light against minimalist backdrops, framing a portrait defined by resilience and shimmer. The focus is on material contrast and sheer presence.
I wanted to do a black and white image with harsh lighting because I enjoy playing around with light. I also did a color version of the picture using a small soft box for contrast. I suspect most folks will prefer the color version which I will post tomorrow.
This is a small wooden statue (about 5 inches tall) that I lit from the side with a bare YN560-III on the lft side about 3 feet away from camera left. Fill light came from a small hand mirror at camera right. With lighting, the smaller the light source and the farther it is from the subject, the harder the light. The light was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Did some more studio and outdoor portrait work last night at the Art Gallery of Burlington with models on both ends of the age scale!
Starting with a young ballerina who I had previously done portraits of, and finishing with a slightly older gentleman, who I opted for a close up grittier style with.
I used my tripod to create this image. I was hoping I had enough time for the long exposure time I needed. Well as you see I had enough time :-)

Dramatic light highlights the architecture of Prague, from the Gothic Our Lady before Tyn church to the infamous Communist broadcasting tower.
Prague has been a political, cultural, and economic centre of central Europe with waxing and waning fortunes during its 1,100-year existence. Founded during the Romanesque and flourishing by the Gothic and Renaissance eras, Prague was not only the capital of the Czech state, but also the seat of two Holy Roman Emperors.

In this picture the bull rider, who has been thrown from the bull, limps off stage right while the life-savers put themselves between him and the bull. These guys used to be called bull fighters, but I guess the new title is more appropriate. This ended well as the bull ended up turning away. If these guys were in a bar with bull riders, I doubt they'd ever have to buy a drink.
