As with the preceding photo, the nature of the sunlight here is what makes this image interesting. Driving home from West Virginia on a cloudy, sometimes rainy day in August, a break in the cloud cover let sunlight through in rather dramatic fashion. Fortunately, I was soon able to pull over at the top of the twisty mountain grade, just a short distance from the Virginia line. I've seen similar light before, but not quite as nice, and not when I could get photos.

Manakha is located in the Haraz mountains, 85 kms (a good 2-hour drive) from Sana'a. It is located at 2300 meters above sea. As far as you can see there's mountains, smaller ones, bigger ones, and about 90 percent of these mountains are covered with terraces for agriculture. Not all of them are used anymore, because lots of locals have moved to the capital and there's just not enough people left to work all the fields. On every hilltop or big rock a town was built, for protection against enemies in the past, incredible constructions, it is mind-boggling how they managed to build them all ... and then : the fields and hillsides are so green, it seems unreal, as if it was painted on.
This photo was taken during sunset and I was rather lucky to get some clouds as the sky in Yemen tends to be just blue and blue.

A patch of strong sunshine provides some brief foreground and middle distance lighting, but Cronkley Scar and Widdybank Fell are about to disappear as the next powerful squall comes in. Taken from the top of Harthope Bank under a wild sky on an extremely blustery morning.
First shoot with my Canon 7D.... natural light with a single reflector which, if I remember correctly, my model was holding herself haha...

Oman is a stunning place to visit with lot of beautiful nature to see. I was also lucky to experience wonderful strong storm just before sunset. I just had to find some point of interest to make it work even more. This tree/bush worked just fine.

Active Assignment Weekly Nov. 8 - 15: Dramatic Lighting
WIT: I wanted to do a shot of me looking out the window, looking for scary beings while keeping the inside dark so they wouldn't come in. I took this late at night, so the room would be totally dark. Since the light coming from outside would not be strong enough, I had a LED flashlight reflecting on my eye below my cheek. It was hard to get the angle of the eye right and still get what looks like a facial profile, since my eyes are so flat on my face, haha! I also had a small halogen table lamp on the floor facing slightly up to light the window frame a little bit. In Photoshop I brightened the eye and desaturated a bit to get a more eerie atmosphere.
L’automne est là , les journées raccourcissent et la lumière dehors n’est pas franchement généreuse. Alors, de temps en temps, j’aime bien en fabriquer un peu. Une lumière chaude d’un côté, une lumière froide de l’autre, et entre les deux, son visage. Rien de compliqué. Juste quelques minutes de légèreté, comme une petite pause dans les jours gris...
EN Autumn is here, the days are getting shorter, and the light outside isn’t exactly generous. So, every now and then, I like to make a little of my own. Warm light on one side, cool light on the other, and her face right between them. Nothing complicated. Just a few minutes of lightness, like a little break from the grey days...
This image captures a woman exuding elegance and sophistication against a dark, vertical-striped background. Her attire is a classic black dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline, complemented by her red lipstick, which adds a pop of color to the otherwise monochromatic setting.

Light Breaking Through
For a brief moment, the clouds opened and the light found its way onto the glacier.
One of those Icelandic scenes that lasts only a few minutes before the weather changes everything again.
Ice, rock, clouds and a little bit of light — more than enough.

It's been awhile! The move went well, I'll post a few pictures in the comments of Garry and me I took sometime last week. I'm loving my life here so far...of course I could use a few more friends and a job but I know those things will come with time. For now I'm happy to have Garry and enjoy the simple things in life :)
I actually wasn't planning on doing a picture anytime soon...the apartment isn't that big and I still don't know the layout of the land very well here. But I signed into flickr this evening for the first time in awhile and saw a request from getty images and I also got an email from Brooke Shaden...both of which inspired me to think of SOMETHING.
And it just began with the make up and took off from there. I'm actually quite pleased with how this one turned out...which is rare lol especially when I do something so on the whim as this.
I'll probably be doing more sometime soon...perhaps something that features Garry and myself? We'll see...for now, enjoy our quarky silliness.
