This series of photos was taken for the group "Macro Mondays." This week's theme is "Stephen King" and we were encouraged to photograph something based on King's extensive body of work. I am not a fan of the horror genre in books or movies, but Stephen King is such a creative man, i thought I could pull this theme off with a little humor. So I really got into the "corniness" of it all.
I took a little over 200 photos using various tiny (children) figures with corn on the cob, candy corn, Indian corn, and pop corn. This one in color is my favorite photo and I think it captures something a little terrifying. I have included 5 others in my photostream for you to see as well. This was a wonderful theme--and I had a blast with it. BTW, I have never seen the movie "Children of the Corn" or read the story--and I don't think I ever will. However, it is a very rich title that lends itself to interpretive metaphorical/magical imagery--thank you, Stephen King, for your words and creativity. =)

These five photos are a tribute to Rob Johnston who passed away on February 25, 2013. I attended Ryerson with him in the early 80s. He was a really talented photographer--his portraits were outstanding. He was a great guy, a true Newf through and through. He will be missed by all who knew him.

in black and white, the world fades away. his gaze pierces through the lens, and suddenly it is just him and you. no distractions, no artifice. the contrast of light and shadow carves out his story with precision, the timelessness of the monochrome drawing you in. he doesn’t speak, but you hear everything.
A few images from the Cliff Mautner workshop in Philadelphia/New Jersey. Workshops are limited 20 and sell out many weeks in advance. Participants come from all over the globe and this is a great way to connect with a great group of people and with a world class instructor.

A very blustery day with fleeting sunny spots and a stormy looking sky over Holwick as seen from Middle Side
A vertical version (taken a few minutes later) of the horizontal I posted a few days ago.
The info: Every time I come home to Southern California via the Grapevine and Interstate 5, I notice how beautiful the rolling hills of the San Emigdio mountains are as you approach the Tejon Pass from the north--and also note that it's a tough spot to get a good pic, and I never seem to time it when the light is really good. This weekend, however, storm clouds moving over the mountains in late afternoon cast some nice dramatic light, and the hills have begun to green up (as they do in the winter) from all the rain we've had recently. I found a good spot where I could take aim at the edges of Tejon Ranch, and made the most of the light before continuing on home.
It was my intention on this longest day of the year, June 21st, to
take in every last moment of light, and it did not disappoint on this
fine night... Summer has finally arrived ~ Florida Everglades U.S.A.

A rainbow and brightly lit patch of middle distance against a sinister dark sky as a snow squall sweeps over. Looking north from Barningham Moor.
This began as a simple self-portrait experiment and turned into a study of restraint.
One light. No fill. Letting the shadows do most of the talking.
I’ve always admired how the old masters—especially Rembrandt—used darkness not as absence, but as presence. The light doesn’t explain everything here, and that’s intentional. Age, texture, and time are allowed to show without correction.
This image also marks my first submission of 2026 to 52Frames, a project that traditionally begins the year with a selfie—an invitation to look inward before pointing the camera outward again.
Shot digitally, but with a deliberate nod to classical portraiture, where mood mattered more than sharpness, and silence carried weight.
