Perched along one of the seemingly innumerable side canals, awaiting one of the gondolas to cross. Not a much better way to pass the time.
thanks for looking!
This is the second day of a 3-day charter over the US Sugar Corporation rail lines radiating out of Clewiston on the south shore of Lake Okeechobee. On this day, the charter ran on USSC's main line from Clewiston to Sebring on former ACL rails.
In this image, the charter train is making a photo run-by on the Caloosahatchee Canal swing bridge at Moore Haven, Florida. On this day, January 21, 2023, the four-car train is being pulled by USSC GP40 501, which began life as Milwaukee Road 184 in March 1966. It was later rebuilt to GP40-2 specifications. The locomotive at the other end of the train is USSC GP11 304, originally Illinois Central GP9 9198.
US Sugar has a vast operation out of Clewiston with about 120 miles of track. With 800 unique cars and a fleet of locomotives, the company hauls sugar cane from loaders on numerous branch lines to the large mill at Clewiston. "Cane jobs" work seven days a week bringing in the cane from the fields. Each job is powered by one locomotive handing 30 or 40 cars, each loaded with 40 tons of cane, about an acre's worth. A dozen or more cane trains work each day during the harvest.
Eastbound BNSF train H BARBEL1 26 crosses over the Colorado River as it passes between the states of California and Arizona on this crisp August morning.
Warrenhill crossing. One of the advantages of taking photos here Being out in the sticks with no signals is you now when a train is coming when the signal goes to red and the siren starts up, even from my position on the bridge!

RJ Corman 3805 is about to cross the Cumberland River in Clarksville, TN. However before doing so they have this long curved approach on this super cool wooden trestle. 1.2.25
I came back to this location to get a shot of the training run from the other end of the car park, but as the two workings pass here within 10 minutes of each other here's another shot of 37418 leaving Queen Street station working 2R20 17:01 Cardiff Central to Rhymney.
Not my sharpest shot (I blame heat haze), but I've included it in this sequence, to help convey the drama of a crossing. There area around 100 animals just in this image

This is the D3716 gravel road looking north towards the Spitzkoppe Nature Reserve. It's normally completely empty with barely a handful of cars passing by every hour. On our second night in Namibia, we were brought to a standstill by these local goats gingerly making their way across the road.
Grosse Spitzkoppe is the peak on the left of the photo. The Pontok Mountains are straight ahead.
