I have a bad habit of buying cookbooks, so my New Year's resolution is to attempt to make a new recipe every week.

Put your guns to work--get some game and get it ready for the table. This vintage cookbook by the Remington company has recipes (including butchering and carcass prep) for EVERYTHING, including Raccoons.

I didn't even know you could eat raccoons. Squirrels, yes. But Raccoon Pot Pie? Come on!

I'm on the road right now, so will post more publishing information later. If I can scan the recipes for the raccoon dishes without wrecking the spine, I'll post them ASAP.

"Chicken Enchilada Soup"

see the big food

So... most definitely a departure of sorts for me, but it is looking very likely that I'll be doing a large series of shots for an awesome cookbook a friend of mine is publishing in late summer this year. "Soup From A Can" as it will be called... is essentially about 30 recipes, all very inexpensive, of really tasty hearty soups and stews of which derive all or nearly all of their ingrendients from readily avaialbe canned goods and spices. Quick. Easy. Cheap. And really good. This one, I must admit, tasty just like a chicken enchilada, only took about 30 to 45 min to make, and fed 6 people easily for about 8 dollars.

Anyhow.... this one was the test run and he was very impressed, as was I having never seriously photographed food except for meals that i've made or eaten out and about. You'd laugh at my lighting setup and I'd smile with you. :)

Salud!

We have a lot of cookbooks... We're getting rid of a lot of books in general, but most of the cookbooks are staying. Here they all are on our new desk, waiting to be reassigned to newly moved bookshelves. The prettiest ones are now in the living room, and the rest will be on a shelf in the bedroom.

We absolutely love the timeline here (though we might change the style behind it now that the dark wood is used in the left list).

We spent some time considering this one but eventually moved away because it's not a friendly style for people who need to read a lot of content. That, and we would've been lynched. :)

Lookie!! Here we have none other than "The Galloping Gourmet TV Cookbook" from 1972 featuring favorite dishes from Deep South Pacific. Note on the cover Graham Kerr is holding a Macaw parrot on his arm (hope that is not part of his menu :) Next to that is another book, "Blue Ribbon Recipes - County Fair Winners" yummmmm-eeeee, those goodies on the cover are calling my name!
