The component parts had been standing around for a long time. I finally saw the possibility of putting them together and having a more functional way to hold my bikes when minor work is needed. The upright post is a piece of 8" x 10" beam. Not an everyday find, but I did come across it as a discard a few years ago. The hanger arms are from a bike carrier for car installation. Also a curbside find.

Questo è un report lungo e breve al tempo stesso, sulla tradizionale festa dal sapore sacro e profano con radici pagane, chiamata "U Ballu di Diavuli" (il Ballo dei Diavoli) che ho realizzato quest'anno durante il pomeriggio di Pasqua nel paese siciliano di Prizzi, in provincia di Palermo: questa festa, che ha origini medioevali, è la rappresentazione dell'eterna lotta del Male (due Diavoli e la Morte) contro il Bene (il Cristo e la Madonna). I Diavoli indossano una tuta di lana di colore rosso (il colore del fuoco dell'Inferno...), indossando anche una vistosa maschera di ferro con una grande bocca adornata da grossi denti e da una lingua penzoloni, maschera che è sormontata da due corna, posteriormente rivestita da un vello di caprone che ricopre spalle e parte della schiena (un Diavolo ha un vello nero, l'altro Diavolo un vello bianco), infine entrambi i Diavoli stringono tra le mani pezzi di catene di ferro, che vengono agitate e fatte sbattere contro le stesse maschere; la Morte indossa una tuta di lana di colore giallo ocra, indossa una maschera di cuoio sempre di colore giallo, che assomiglia ad un teschio, dalla cui bocca escono dei lunghi denti, essa stringe tra le mani uno "strumento di morte" molto simile ad una balestra medioevale. La festa ha inizio la mattina di Pasqua, la Morte insieme ai due Diavoli (che sono diventati ad un certo momento, anche quattro, per coinvolgere più passanti) scorazzano per le vie del paese di Prizzi, coinvolgendo coi loro scherzi e moine, i passanti...i quali vengono invitati a ballare assieme a loro al suono ben ritmato della banda musicale; spesso i due Diavoli "catturano l'anima" di un passante, il quale per poter vedere la sua anima liberata....deve rilasciare un piccolo obolo simbolico ....Purtuttavia, il nome della festa "il Ballo dei Diavoli" trae origine da un momento molto particolare della manifestazione, allorquando le due statue, quella del Cristo Risorto e quella Madonna si trovano l'una di fronte l'altra per potersi incontrare (U 'Ncontru): è qui, tra le due statue, che i due Diavoli e la Morte inscenano un andirivieni fatto di balli, salti, moine...con lo scopo di impedire questo incontro, però… le due statue, per nulla intimorite dalle forze nefaste del Male, finiscono col chiudono tra loro, senza vie di fuga, i Diavoli e la Morte .... che vengono così trafitti dalle spade degli Angeli (messi a guardia del Cristo Risorto); finalmente la Madre ed il suo Figlio possono incontrarsi, in un tripudio di gioia dei devoti, col Bene che ha così sconfitto le forze del Male...

I've completely reworked the hadware board. The basics remain the FPGA module Terasic, the DE0-Nano. This board contains a lot of I / O lines and is super fast. Everything is on a single-sided PCB. The output transistor drivers ( 20 pieces 500 mA/ 45V outputs ) are in SMD to save board space. The DE0-nano FPGA board is as a Peggy-back board mounted on ther driver PCB. Via the USB connector, the FPGA program can be re-written.
What does this interface:
* 20 open collector outputs via JP10 and JP11.
- Camera meter
- Camera shutter
- X1 flash1 signaal ( manual or TTL mode flash1)
- Q1 flash1 signaal ( TTL mode flash1 ) or X3 flash3 manual mode.
- X2 flash2 signaal ( manual or TTL mode flash2)
- Q2 flash2 signaal ( TTL mode flash2 ) or X4 flash4 manual mode.
- DIR steppen motor board.
- Step steppen motor board.
- Enable steppen motor board.
- 1 Spare output.
- 4 outputs used to drive the color background module. Via JP12
- 6 outputs used to drive the Cree foreground module. Via JP9
Enc1 connector:
2 inputs from a rotary encode frontplate. Used as general digital input value.
Enc2 connector:
2 inputs from a rotary encode frontplate. Used to move the step motor of the lineaire stage module in manual mode.
Range switch input
4 input switches to change the analog sensitivity range of the color pot meters.
Drive of the H-Bridge color shutter module:
- 6 direct FPGA outputs via JP13 and JP17.
Matrix 5X8 keyboard 40 pushbuttons. via JP14 and JP18.
LCD1 display 4X20 chars via JP16.
LCD2 display 4X20 chars via JP15.
4 I/O connectors via JP2 still no assigned function.
Connection via the general GPIO3 connector from the top of the FPGA DE-Nano board.
2x13 pins connected to JP5 and JP6.
8 analog inputs 12 bit resolution via JP8.
- 4 inputs are used for the color setting.
- 1 input used for the stepper speed
- 3 free analog inputs, no function now.
Logic analyser signals:
- 8 levels out the FPGA module via JP3.
Encoder and micro switches from the lineaire stage as feedback position via JP4.
- EncA.
- EncB.
- Enc home.
- min end switch.
- max end switch.
3 I/O connectors via JP1 still no assigned function.

All of the parts for this were off the shelf 1/2" vinyl pipe fixtures from Lowe's. n.b. the socket on the three way connector that you are looking down into is threaded...important for tripod head mounting.
Modified body, M42 adapter to create a tread in the body. Helicoil, Lens with modified M42 lens cap to mount the lens.
Kavalcare Solar System for Jhpiego Mid-Wife Clinic Dec8, 2014
Every year, 12,000 women in Pakistan die of birth complications. The Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Services Component, implemented by MCHIP/Jhpiego, aims at preventing maternal, newborn, and child deaths by ensuring skilled birth attendance (SBA) through a total market approach, empowered community, timely referral of obstetric and neonatal complications to an emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) facility, and improved access to child care.
Lack of electricity in remote areas is a major issue that often leads to obstetric complications and newborn deaths. Refrigerated storage is vital for the effectiveness of life saving drugs and vaccines. Ice boxes are used in remot areas of this purpose but it is an ineffective method especially when easy availability of ice is a problem. To overcome these issues, Lodhie Foundation in association with Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program/JHPIEGO, extended its Kavalcare program and provided a Solar Powered System to a remote clinic located at village Haji Usman Jhakro near Makli, District Thatta. System provides sufficient power to operate a small refrigerator, a fan and 3 lamps 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It was designed, manufactured and installed by Shaan Technologies private Limited Karachi. After installation of Solar System in August 2014, this small remote clinic is serving a community of 10,000 plus persons who lives in village Haji Usman and surrounding areas. On an average 10 patients visits this clinic each day. Clinic also provides up to 15 birth attendance and new born care in a month.

In a couple of weeks I've signed up on a course where I will hopefully learn how to use an overlocker. This will be at the same place where I went earlier in the year to learn how to thread and use a basic sewing machine.
It's a week or so before my daughter's birthday and the item of clothing we're making is a child's dress so I've let my daughter pick her fabric, thread, and buttons this weekend in the hope that I don't make an absolute arse of the dress and it will be something she can treasure.
Fingers crossed, no pressure.

You might remember this body cap from a previous experiment in which I added a step up ring in order to hold filters. I've removed the old pinhole and bored a larger hole using a dremel tool.
Similarly, I recycled this pinhole and film canister cap from my Asahi-Pentax mod.
Just recently, a friend brought me this box of cover glasses. These are almost next to impossible to source in Hanoi.
