Soldiers, Sailors and Marines from across Active Duty and Reserve Components on Fort Benning and in the surrounding community converged December 4-7 to compete for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. One of a handful of authorized foreign awards, the badge is highly coveted for wear on the US military dress uniform. Qualifying for the badge requires proficiency in physical training, swimming, marksmanship and completion of a 12 mile ruck march. Soldiers and Drill Sergeants from the 98th Training Division (IET) not only competed for the GAFPB, but also lent their administrative, operational and instructional skills to the execution and planning of the event in coordination with the 1-46th Infantry Regiment. Congratulations to those who made the competition a success, and to those who have now earned the right to wear the badge!

What's it good for:

This is like a Magnetix set, but the connecting rods are electronic components, so it's very easy to set up circuits and try changes. I remember when I was a kid, I had one of those Radio Shack "150-in-1" kits where you would connect wires to springs and the resulting mess of wires didn't exactly stimulate you to experiment by changing things!

You can also mix-and-match with normal Magnetix pieces (they don't conduct from one end to the other) to create... ermmm... embedded systems ;-)

It's a pitty there are so few components, though. And as far as I can tell, they don't sell expansion kits (yet!).

I hooked everything up here to do a last check to make sure everything works. It appears to. I'll have no idea how it actually sounds though until it's all in the box.

When the amp is put on the back of the box, I will connect the speaker wires to the outputs on the inside of the amp and ignore the screw terminals.

Dock-It B2B Kit (strut and mounting clamp for a threadless steerer), and Core Kit, along with the mounting plate for the bag.

this is a opamp based ringmod (from robert irvine's book). i added two VCA's, so now both the carrier and the modulator signal are voltage controllable.

it sounds different to a AD633 ringmod.

I bought these cheap Nested Dolls from (I think) the Rocks Market in Sydney. I got them with the intention of re-imagining them as something else. Earlier I'd got some Santa ones, with the same purpose in mind. It seems there are two schools of thought for nested dolls; representing things which are "inside" each other, or things that are simply related. I went for the latter - electronic components.

Here I've started to paint the largest doll.

Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Fairfax-based Data Processing Unit join representatives from 14 states in displaying cyber capabilities at the U.S. House of Representatives National Guard and Reserve Components Caucus State Cyber Day Oct. 22, 2015, at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, DC. Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., and Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., co-chairs of the caucus, created this opportunity for Washington officials to see the cybersecurity capabilities, coordination and partnership building in the Guard and Reserve. In addition to Army and Air Guard cyber experts and senior leaders from fourteen states, representatives from the National Governors Association and the National Guard Bureau also took part in the event. Originally formed in January 1975 to provide data processing support to National Guard Bureau, the mission of the DPU has evolved over the years and is now poised to conduct full spectrum cyber operations. The unit has more than 160 Soldiers whose missions include conducting web risk and vulnerability assessment in support of U. S. Army Cyber Command and other federal agencies. They are also prepared to support the Commonwealth of Virginia with computer network defense and recovery operations. (Photo by Cotton Puryear, Virginia National Guard Public Affairs)
