The Ian Allan ABC 1988 British Rail Multiple-Units volume suggests that the front and rear coaches would be 51307 (DMBS) and 51322 (DMS). This would make the front coach here 51307, although the centre coach cannot easily be identified. The train has Valley Train logos and a Welsh dragon.

In the days when it was possible to sit at the front of a diesel multiple unit and (assuming that the driver had not lowered the blind) it was possible to enjoy a "driver's eye" view of the track ahead. On board a class 116 unit as a similar unit passes in the opposite direction on the section of route between Solihull and Lapworth that used to be four tracks. Taken in September 1984
