BR class 45 45102 stands in the middle road at Sheffield station in the mid 1980's on an ECS train
Originally D51 pre-TOPS, this locomotive was withdrawn in September 1986 and scrapped at Vic Berry's in October 1988

S-3 class, 261, sits quietly on a peaceful morning in Minneapolis as the Sun begins to rise. In a few hours it'll power the Gourmet Express to Glencoe to the delight of many. The crew has graciously allowed me to climb aboard, into the immaculately kept cab. Note the nice tribute to the late Judy Sandberg, a pivotal figure throughout 261's excursion history. Also note the mini 261 on the control stand.

This was stored at Toton for a while before being transfered to Sheffield as seen here before being taken into Marple & Gillots scrapyard for disposal, it was cut up in April 1985 so this photo will date from March or April 1985
One of the most formidable warships in known space, the Deneb-class Battleship is the first ship class of the Solaris Confederation to field the newly developed Tachyon Particle Lance. The Tachyon Particle Lance, in conjunction with superluminal missiles, gives the class devastating long range firepower. At shorter ranges, the class utilizes heavy X-Ray laser batteries. DB Schenker Class 66, 66144 is seen passing through Rollerston with the Kingsbury - Humber oil tanks. 66114 has recently been re painted from EWS livery in to DB Schenker livery at Toton.

Although the planned withdrawal of the 'Castle Class 255' 4+2 HSTs on timetabled services was to be by the end of 2023, this was subsequently revised, enabling a small number of sets to continue in use on GWR diagrams into 2024. On 22nd September 2023 just one class 1 diagram remained, the 1G77 15:50 Penzance to Bristol Temple Meads, with 43155 'Rougement Castle' (with 43153 'Chûn Castle powering on the rear) rolls into Taunton shortly after sunset. 43155 (with 43154) was acquired by West Coast Railway Company and moved to Carnforth on 31st July 2025.

A class 101 awaits departure from Leeds on a stopping train to Huddersfield and Marsden on 5 March 1983.
On 16 April 2022, D213 (out of sight at the front) and 47593 top and tail 1Z75 charter from Manchester Piccadilly at Yarmouth. The train then departed for the sidings.
The British Rail Class 108 two car, diesel multiple units (DMU's) were built by BR Derby from 1958 to 1961. In all, 333 vehicles were produced in various formats.
The units stayed in regular service until 1990, when they began to be withdrawn from traffic, to be replaced on regional services by new "Sprinter" units, or by "Turbo" units on services around London.
The final Class 108 units lasted in traffic until October 1993, although many saw further use in departmental service, as sandite or route-learner units. Good condition on withdrawal and a lack of asbestos has ensured that many of this class are now used on preserved railway lines.
This unit appears to be heading for Heaton depot in Newcastle, hauled by a Class 37 locomotive in the grey and yellow Departmental livery.
Photographing all the seabird chicks close to our house is one of my 2017 highlights.

The first settlement, further north than the current locality, developed in the second century d. C., along the southern bank of the port channel that connected the sea with a large inland basin. The port, wanted by Octavian Augustus, was able to accommodate a fleet (Classis) of 250 ships.
During the III-IV century the walls were built and around the civitas Classis important military operations were carried out by Odoacs (476), Theoderic (491-493) and Belisarius (540). After the destruction of the city, carried out by the Lombards in the eighth century, followed a period of almost total abandonment of the territory.
The ancient port silted up and no longer usable, the progressive removal of the sea, the subsidence and the constant subtraction of building material, erased any sign of the existence of Classe.
At that point the toponym Classe no longer indicated the port city represented in the Theodorician mosaic of S. Apollinare Nuovo, but the place where the basilica of S. Apollinare and the adjacent monastery stood.

All’inesorabile declino sopravvissero solo alcuni edifici religiosi come S. Severo e S. Apollinare, presso i quali, fin dall’Alto Medioevo, erano nate strutture monasteriali. A quel punto il toponimo Classe non indicò più la città portuale rappresentata nel mosaico teodoriciano di S. Apollinare Nuovo, ma il luogo in cui sorgevano la basilica di S. Apollinare e l’adiacente monastero.
