It starts with the malt extract. Here's the classic Mountmellick unhopped light. It's a 4 pound can of syrup made totally from 2-row malted barley that has been "converted" (the fermentable sugars that is). It's on the way to being combined with water, hops (Kent Goldings and Cascade) and London Ale yeast to become a classic English Bitter. Coming in about 4 weeks to a tap here in SE Baltimore.
Bottles, caps, and boxes. Once the beer is in the bottles and the bottles are capped it'll be another 10 days before they go into the refrigerator.

We like good beer in our hands, and witty sayings on our T-shirts. This was the 3rd Annual Montana Brewer's Association Brewfest in Bozeman, MT. Sometimes I follow my roomie around and play photojournalist/ beautiful assistant. Then the cameras go away and we get to enjoy the good beer. Cheers!

October 24, 2015. Hiking to Brew Lake on an overcast day we missed the blue sky. The climbing is brutal and it is cold up here. At some sections, the trail is not well marked. There are lots of wild mushrooms along the trail.
Stewart Brewing is one of only two remaining breweries in Edinburgh. Steve Stewart is a young and enthusiastic brewer not afraid to experiment with contemporary beers, which he produces in small batches to unique recipes.
I’m not a big ale drinker myself, but my beer-loving, CAMRA-devoted ex-publican companion was impressed and happily lugged a keg of Steve's IPA home.

Sorry, wish I had more pics of this place, but this is the only one I have. We came here hoping for a brewpub where we could sit down, order a few, and get something to eat. Turned out that it was only a brewing facility. They do have a small shop where they have 5 taps of their beer for tasting, and they let you fill growlers to go. Hilo, Big Island of Hawaii 6/27/07
Brew pot with Weld-B-Gone ball-lock valve installed. The hole was punched about 3/4" from the bottom in order to trap the hot break (although 1/2" probably would have been sufficient). Even though you don't want to let cooled wort sit, waiting just 3-5 minutes allows the hot break to settle and remain trapped in the brew pot and out of the fermenting vessel.
