Spruce Tips and Local Raw Wildflower Honey

For those of you who have followed me of late would've noticed I've begun to put up my working shots for the current challenge on the week ahead's Macro Mondays. This week's challenge has the theme of Brew and I thought I'd use (a 3 cup) cafetière. Now for those of you just flick(r)ing through you may not see any difference, and of course the theme and shot is very much alike. What I have a tendency to do is just alter a focal point, or indeed, add an additional focal point to draw the eye. You the viewer, as of course I do, will like some better than others (hopefully at least one?). I have left the identifications as shown by way of means to illustrate how I photographed them and then slightly altered various points ... thank you for taking the time to view my work, I am always very grateful.

Busch Gardens has two Brew Masters Clubs, in which you can taste (with food pairings) various concoctions of the Anheuser-Busch breweries. They include the standard Budweiser and Micheloeb, but also range into Tilt - a beer energy drink - Peels - a kind of fruit beer like Mike's Hard Lemonade - Harbin - a Chinese beer - SkipJack - a local brew of the Williamsburg brewery - and others.

Highly recommended, especially on a hot day. However, make your reservations early as they fill up fast.

See More: Breweries and Brewpubs I have visited

It was a long wait, but my oh my, was it worth it.

Our most recent Bodum arrival at sola is the Kona pourover brewer/coffeemaker. May I wax poetic of its virtue? The sweet dark nectar which which flows forth doesn't hit your tongue, it languishes in a slow descent, unfurling like velvet. I have not been excited about drip since my Clover-Hache rendezvous in Vancouver.

And its so utterly simple. The Kona could become in the mid-00s what the French Press was in the mid-90s. I hazard to say what made press pot coffee popular was it sidesteps the engineered flaws of autodrip. Brew temps were where they needed to be - because you controlled the temperature with a kettle. Of course, metal filters also allowed more of those volatile oils to end up in your cup. Not to mention, it added some romance and much needed user-product interaction to the process.

Perhaps the Kona won't take off like the Chambord, but I do expect it to be embraced by the hard-core types and make quality accessible to folks possibly intimidated by the press (1st wave-ish). The Kona is elegant, simple and affordable - and the depth of the flavour is laid bare before you in the cup.

Jenny was directed to embrace the vehicle on the wall and I was directed to get the shot. Noting that my camera/flash has superpowers!

This was my first time shooting with this flash/camera combo so I really didn't know what to expect. Looks like I need to turn that aperture ring a couple clicks to the right next time. Had to get a little creative in photochop to get anything back in the highlights. You can see some unusual stuff going on in the oof areas.

How are today’s brewers inspired by history? Bluejacket brewery’s Greg Engert and beer historian Mike Stein discuss the art and science of brewing. They shared their story of creating new beers inspired by beer styles of the early 19th century and explored the connections between Washington, DC’s craft beer scene today and the DC beer world of the past.

Orlando Brewing is the local beer. These hand-crafted organic ales and lagers are already available in select bars and restaurants across Central Florida. Many more are coming aboard. And, of course, you can always wet your whistle right here at the Tap Room.

Orlando Brewing is Florida’s only certified organic brewery. What does it mean to be organic? It means that ingredients used in crafting our ales are grown without insecticides, bioengineering, or irradiation.

Orlando Brewing brews in accordance with the German Purity Law of 1516. That means we use only natural, organic ingredients.

My wife bought me a fixed gear bike for my birthday. Took it out for the first time today when we cycled to Lake Ginninderra for a picnic lunch...

found these in a box from SQM. Good idea.

A must for the start of a day.
