Red-tailed Hawk (view large for detail) Backlit from overhead sun. Because they are so common and easily trained as capable hunters, the majority of hawks captured for falconry in the United States are Red-tails. Falconers are permitted to take only hawks in their first year. Adults, which may be bred, are not permitted to be taken for falconry. Falconers prefer to train first year hawks, which have not been locked into uncooperative adult behaviors. Wingspan,is about 3.8 to 4.3 (1.1 to 1.3 m) (20 to 26 in) in length. As is the case with many raptors the Red-tailed Hawk displays sexual dimorphism in size, as females are 25% larger than males. The wingspan is from 110 to 145 cm (43 to 57 in).

The Red-tailed Hawk also has significance in Native American culture. Its feathers are considered sacred by some tribes, and are used in religious ceremonies. IMG_8976

Fourteenth picture of the series Delta Dreams.

(For this time in vertical, reverse the roles on the boats.

The sun was out and you can be appreciated just to the right of the boat in the background, all those pixels you see are hundreds of flamingos feeding in these lands so good for them.

From my position I listened to them perfectly, but due to fog were almost imperceptible)

My dreamed sunrise in the Delta of the river Ebro -Tarragona-.

The previous day, a local man explained to me a perfect location for enjoy the photograph of this beautiful land.

I consulted the parameters that night and everything was correct to travel there.

The truth is that I was impressed to get to that place, I put on my waders running to get me asap and do not lose the time.

The sun had not yet risen, the water reached my waist, good temperature, soft wind, a lot of clouds and fog surrounding the horizon, made the conditions were the best.

Many photos I've seen of this place is that in photoshop blur the horizon line with the clone tool, but there was fog and with long exposure, completely erased.

It seemed that I was doing a photo shoot in the same heaven.

I think for many more times to return to this place, I can never find anything so perfect.

This is the photo shoot I most enjoyed in recent years, have a set of at least seven impressive images.

On the technical side, say that I only used a neutral gradient three steps filter.

I hope you like it. Have a nice Friday. :)

Just because I'm losing

Doesn't mean I'm lost

Doesn't mean I'll stop

Doesn't mean I will crossJust because I'm hurting

Doesn't mean I'm hurt

Doesn't mean I didn't get what I deserved

No better and no worseI just got lost

Every river that I tried to cross

Every door I ever tried was locked

Oh and I'm just waiting 'til the shine wears off

Not because there are thorns. And also not because this iron sculpture of the 1970s is rough and rusty. It is because recognition will not happen if you get much closer. If you zoom in much further, you will not recognise the face. You will see structure, texture, bright and dark areas, but not a face. Some things can only be recognised from a distance. Because the world’s elephants are in trouble and need your help.

Image taken in Northern Botswana

Elephant numbers have dropped by 62% over the last decade, and they could be mostly extinct by the end of the next decade. An estimated 100 African elephants are killed each day by poachers seeking ivory, meat and body parts, leaving only 400,000 remaining. An insatiable lust for ivory products in the Asian market makes the illegal ivory trade extremely profitable, and has led to the slaughter of tens of thousands of African elephants. Between 2010 and 2014, the price of ivory in China tripled, driving illicit poaching through the roof. If the elephants are to survive, the demand for ivory must be stopped . As of 2011, the world is losing more elephants than the population can reproduce, threatening the future of African elephants across the continent. Bull elephants with big tusks are the main targets and their numbers have been diminished to less than half of the females. Female African elephants have tusks and are also killed, which has a terrible effect on the stability of elephant societies, leaving an increasing number of orphaned baby elephants. There are still more African elephants being killed for ivory than are being born . . . elephant populations continue to decline.

Pancha Island

is an islet that is located at the northeastern tip of Ribadeo, at the mouth of the Eo River. With a limited area, it occupies almost 1 hectare and, although two lighthouses stand on it (one of them painted white and blue, dating from 1860), it is most likely that neither the lighthouse nor the island in general can be accessed due to because it is linked to the coast by a bridge that is closed most of the time. Despite this, it should be noted that the view is much more beautiful from the viewpoint than from the lighthouse.

As soon as we set off along the Faro road (which is signposted as "Estrada do Faro"), an impressive panoramic view of the Ría appears before us, with Figueras and Castropol in the background.

This charming Victorian is on the tour, named Queen of the May because that was the month construction was completed... and it is obvious what a queenly residence it is. This design is by Archimedes Russell, a professor of architecture at Syracuse University who has much of his work listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This house displays the era's extravagant details and strong coloring. After WWI such statements fell out of favor, and one after another, these stunning "painted ladies" were garbed in more modern colors. It is wonderful to see so many of them being returned to their origins. (Elm Street is a particulary good area to see many stunning homes which are not listed in the tour brochure.)

The self-guided walking and driving tours of Malone include a number of historic churches and many fine homes featuring Greek Revival and Victorian-style architecture. The beautifully restored homes include many Queen Anne-style homes, "The Queen of the May" at 100 Elm Street was featured on the cover of the 1992 book, America's Painted Ladies.

I visited South Lakes wild animal park yesterday with my fiancee. I dopped her off at 7:45am because I had bought her a present of zoo keeper for the day which she thoroughly enjoyed although she has found muscles that she did not know existed today...lol!! I went off to Coniston water (more of which later) and returned to the park at 10am. This male and female Sumatran tigers had just finished "holding hands" when the female underneath decided enough hand holding was enough!!

Albert Einstein

Well, whether the above thruth may be really attributable to great Albert or not, it stil is the truth. It is undeniable. And it keeps proving as such as you'll see from the following. The other day I was playing with light, contrast, textures and exposure only to come up with a result proving the quote. I'm reckoning now I should have tried and overexposed it to an even greater extent ...for sheer curiosity's sake. Well, next time maybe, because while I'm too irresistibly drawn to see what my new lens can do, which I proudly announced in my last post, for sheer suspense's sake, both mine and yours, hopefully, I think I'll definitely be coming back to the exploration of this topic over and over again.

Cheers, my friends!

Something bit special from an evening out in falling snow.

It is not very often that I get such a possibility to make a photograph where you have already been sure that it will be very special. The mood has something indescribably unique and you need all your concentration to make a photo at all, because this moment is so wonderful and you do not want to miss it. This was such a moment when I stood with an umbrella armed in the slow falling snow show and the passing sun was still showing through the clouds before disappeared behind the horizon. Some kind of magic...

I hope you can imagine something of it, in this shot the falling snow is unfortunately not so clearly visible. Lol... ;-)

Cheers

THANKS

Well, it had to happen, because to complete the proper Victorian aesthetic look in my downstairs office and reading room I had to change the Angle-Poise light I had on my desk, which was a spare from my attic office, up in the roof space.

So I found this lamp instead, which is in the classic Accountants/Banker style, but the shade is in white, instead of green or blue. I loved those colours, but felt that they would be too dominant on the desk itself. [Not that I am fussy or anything]. Also, you can’t see it in this photo, but there is a rather nice white glass ‘tulip-shaped’ lamp to the side, behind the sofa, which has a sort of elegance that I thought this light had on my Victorian desk and would echo in style to match.

Now I sound like some house interior magazine waffling on about design. But, I will be spending a lot of time in here, so I might as well get it right, and that’s my excuse and I am sticking to it!

So here I was working in the evening on the MacBook and using my written notes and reference books in my usual way.

This is for a part of a series that I am going to show on my website and Flickr, depending how it all goes, and as to what goes where, I will sort it out as it goes along. Actually there has been quite a lot of work that I have been organising over the past few months. I have had one of those patches where the writing flowed and I just wanted to keep going. A lot of it has ended up in a series, well, four of them so far, rather than just singles because the photographs were either taken on the same day in roughly the same location yet each seems has something to say, or they go together as a group because the weather was similar over a period of time. But seeing them as a series together just gives them more power. Whether this will work on Flickr I am not sure, as the format is a bit restricting, but on my website I can place them all up on a page of their own. On Flickr I might just choose a few examples to tempt you to go and look at it on my website, designed with the poem to go with it. The important thing for me is that they appear together somewhere. But then I will also be printing them out as well…

I know that on Flickr many just scroll through…perhaps not even reading the text that goes with it, or the poem, but lately I have been thinking about this and have decided that I am not going to concern myself with this behaviour anymore. It is there if people wish to engage with it more fully. Because I used to produce creative work for a living you got used to keeping a copy for yourself. And by that I mean a physical, printed copy. Nothing beats it, because you feel as though you have actually done something, and for me that is important to show that you have a body of work. Social media, and even websites can lose information, shut down, or be sold off to the highest bidder…and your work might be lost if you haven’t backed it up, not to mention the subscription fees..which keep going up.

I think that if you are serious about your work, you need to treat it seriously, and lately I am thinking that perhaps the body of work I leave might be of use in the future. I have been encouraged by the reaction to it on Flickr and elsewhere, and that has really helped me to continue producing it. But I have also been thinking about my own well-being and what I enjoy doing. And that is going out with my camera and being inspired to write poetry to go with it. In this way, the joy of producing that work will continue to shine through the work itself as long as I get the balance right.

And for those of you who are itching to know what those piles of books are in the image..don’t worry, there is going to be more about that later. Books should be shared and collections loved, and I have been collecting all my life…

The time seems to be going by faster. A lot has happened since my last upload, both on the world stage and personally, because of various power-cuts, another water-leak in my home, and other matters I am behind in my own schedule for about a month. This winter has been tough. I have had to also block some people on here, as I did not like their controlling behaviour; that is just not acceptable. If you do not like my work then just move on, but also perversely, those that do like it but want to invade my life and use either my work or my empathetic nature for their own benefit can also remove themselves from my presence. You have missed the point entirely of my work.

I am here to share my own journey of the soul, and to help you with yours if you want me to, through art and conversation. Perhaps as creative people we can all find an equilibrium in this, as it is something we can do, that we can rely on to help us through the turbulent years in our lives. I know for myself that this is true, as my work has helped me to remain relatively sane in difficult times. It is also good to share, not just in challenging times, but also in the good times.

The creative arts have always had a place in shaping history too, it can be very powerful. And it can also be quietly consoling.

As well as producing work for my own portfolio it has always been my intention to provide a gallery on Flickr and a website that shows my work in such a way that it can be a constructive help. I wanted both of them to be a calm space, a place you can go to when you need to think, or settle your mind. I wanted these works to provide an understanding of the human condition, of the difficulties of keeping your faith, whatever God you follow, and also the joy that spiritual faith can provide.

And most of all, I wanted my work to offer hope in any dark times you might be going through.

Thank you all for your support and I hope to keep sharing my work and enjoying the wonderful images that you all share on Flickr. In our own way, perhaps we can make the world a better place. It is a privilege to be in the Flickr community and those who care not only about their own work, but also each other.

Update..

Thank you to all those who have responded to this Explored image...and a special thank you to those who read the accompanying text...as that was what this image was for, just to keep people in the loop as to what I am up to. But maybe the algorithm fancied a read today, who knows? At least, for the moment, it is more benign than Kubrick's "Hal"...

Sometimes wearing an outfit like this lF Design Dharsy does have its risks should you choose to wear it.

It is a very provocative ensemble to adorn since guys are sexually driven by what they see and how they objectify a woman’s behavior. No one wears provocative clothing in the hopes that people won’t look at them.

On the other hand, like a lot of things in life, it’s a relative thing. Some girls wear them to gain attention while others wear them simply because they enjoy wearing them. We should buy clothes for us, not for others. It's your choice, your taste.

I do wear clothing here which may be considered provocative for the feeling of freedom it gives me - personally confirming that I am secure in my own body. Dressing provocatively can be empowering for me if I elect to do so.

This Dharsy Outfit exemplifies a woman’s desire to be attractive. I appreciate respect more than attention however this sexy piece will stir your man’s erogenous zones, period. It is available this month at Swank Events for May ’22.

I never do black and white because I love color but my husand liked this version....looked better in full size before I shrunk it to about 30% for flickr.

Louisbourg lighthouse panorama of 4 shots which were merged with PSE9 and then I had to remove some distortion to level out the ocean...a few months ago I had no idea how to do any of this so I am glad I am slowly learning some new skills. Whole thing was then resized and signed .

Johnny Thunder just found a big hole in the ground. Is it a tunnel where pirates hid their treasure? Is it a secret passage to ancient castle? Is it someone's home, sweet home? Very giant someone, probably dangerous...

Oh wow, I took this picture one year ago, and yesterday was the last visit to that area to took the things I forgot and/or left intentionally on the day of moving. *sigh* I loved this place, I wish I wouldn't put off some of my plans to explore the area more. Two and a half years and never found spare money for a hot chocolate in the cafe across the street?! Two and a half years, but I found the most beautiful route in the forest only when I already knew I have to leave?! Two and a half years, but never walked my PC Lego car on those beautiful pavements?! Two and a half years, and still no picture of my giant T-Rex with a fence, because I never had time?! Oh, come on, I am a dictionary definition of delayed life syndrome!

Anyway, I saw that hole in the forest. I think a mouse lives there, I hope it wasn't too stressed out because a curious human shined a flashlight in the hallway. xD Well, their tunnels are long and complicated, so it probably didn't even saw the light, but it probably heard my footsteps above.

I wanted to show Johnny's face, but the soil was too soft and it was tricky enough to place him and avoid falling down...

P.S.

IMPORTANT QUESTION -

Do you see my pictures in your activity feed or in the groups only? Or do you check my profile specifically (like I do with others)?

It seems there is an issue with my pictures in the feeds since July, I contacted the support and they did something, I need to know if the issue is resolved or is it still there. Thanks in advance!

SN/NC: Kalanchoe Blossfeldiana, Crassulaceae Family

K. blossfeldiana is native to Madagascar (USDA-ARS, 2016). It has naturalized in China, India, North, Central and South America, the West Indies and on many islands in the Pacific Ocean (see the Distribution Table for details; Ministerio Medio Ambiente, 2012; Jørgensen et al., 2015; Flora of North America Editorial Committee, 2016; PIER, 2016). K. blossfeldiana is cultivated as ornamental in the Netherlands (Kalanchoe Growers, 2016) and it is probably also cultivated in other European countries. Because the species is cultivated worldwide, its current distribution range is probably wider than the range reported here. Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is probably the most popular and widely cultivated Kalanchoe species. It is often planted as an indoor potted plant and as an outdoor ornamental. This species has escaped from cultivation and can be found naturalized in disturbed and waste areas near cultivation. Currently it is listed as invasive in the Dominican Republic, Chile and the Galapagos Islands. English: Christmas kalanchoe; kalanchoe; Madagascar widow's-thrill; widow’s thrill. Spanish: bruja; mala madre; tope tope

Want daar hadden we onze zinnen opgezet.

In 2025, 'Terug naar Toen' (Back to then) was organized again by the Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM). This year, the VSM also celebrated its 50th anniversary. An extra good reason to go, therefore. The highlight for me this year was the first trains in the morning mist. In action were the 41 241, 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 52 8139, 65 018, 23 076, 64 415, 2459, 2412 and the SSN 01 1075 and 23 023. In addition, the Katwijk-Leiden Steam Train was present with locomotive 607 'Vrijland'. A section of narrow gauge had been laid in Loenen especially for this occasion. I spent the time along the line and at the depot together with my eldest son. The weather was glorious; Fog in the morning and lots of sun later, but unfortunately less steam production as a result. Unfortunately, the last freight train from Loenen to Eerbeek and back turned out to be cancelled due to a defect. Because that is the one we had really set our sights on. But anyway, it was another successful day out.

Detail of a succulent plant.

Recently I shared a group of tulip photographs and mentioned that we saw them during April visits to a Bay Area garden. But tulips were not the only attractions there. For example, I posted a photograph of dogwood blossoms a few days ago. Although they comprise a very small part of the overall displays, there are also some very interesting succulent plants here and there.

At this garden, many of these plants are found in small pots in various locations — on a table, on top of a low wall, tucked into a spot on the ground. Many of the are, in my view, not the most visually exciting plants, and some that present interesting patterns are difficult to photograph, often because it is hard to get an uninterrupted framing of the plant. I liked this plant, however, both for the remarkable patterns of the leaves and for the striking colorations.

* The cathedral is built of brick, not marble because brick is stronger. However, it was then covered with marble, quarried in New York and Massachusetts.

* It can accommodate 2,200 people.

* The site of the church takes up a whole city block, bounded by East 51st Street to the north, Madison Avenue to the east, East 50th Street to the south, and Fifth Avenue to the west.

* The spires rise 330 feet (100 m) from street level.

* The windows were made by artists in Chartres, France, Birmingham, England and Boston, Massachusetts. The great rose window is one of Charles Connick's major works.

* The Saint Michael and Saint Louis altar was designed by Tiffany & Co. The Saint Elizabeth altar was designed by Paolo Medici of Rome, Italy.

* The Saint John Baptist de la Salle altar remains one of the few original side-chapel altars commemorating the patron saint of catechists and teachers. The adjoining stained-glass window depicts the Papal bull (a type of letters patent) of approbation granted by the Vatican to the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools who, since 1848, have conducted numerous parish grade and high schools throughout the Archdiocese of New York, as well as Manhattan College, Riverdale (in The Bronx borough of New York City) and Lincoln Hall.

* The cathedral's Stations of the Cross won a prize for artistry at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.

* The Pietà is three times larger than Michelangelo's Pietà. It was sculpted by Araldo Perugi, who immigrated from Carrara, Italy.

* A bust of Pope John Paul II is located in the rear of the cathedral, commemorating his visit to the city in 1979.

* Archbishop Francis Spellman, later cardinal, undertook a major renovation of the cathedral's main altar area in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The bronze baldachin in the sanctuary is part of this work, and the former high altar and reredos that stood there were removed and replaced. The original high altar of Saint Patrick's is now in the University Church of Fordham University in The Bronx (Spellman's alma mater). Coincidentally, that church, built in the 1830s, is also home to stained-glass windows donated by French King Louis-Philippe I for Saint Patrick's Old Cathedral downtown when it was originally being built. The windows were installed in the University Church when it was discovered that they did not fit in the Old Saint Patrick's. Clendenin J. Ryan donated the rose window. He was the grandson of Thomas Fortune Ryan and Ida Barry Ryan who built the St. Jean Baptiste church at East 76th Street and Lexington Avenue.

* In the 1980s, John Cardinal O'Connor undertook further renovation work, most notably the construction of a new stone altar in the middle of the sanctuary, closer and more visible to the congregation. It was built from sections of one of the side altars that were removed to reposition the baptismal font in the north transept.

* The roof is made from slate from Monson, Maine.

Let's take our time tonight, girl

Above us all the stars are watchin'

There's no place I'd rather be in this world

Your eyes are where I'm lost in

Underneath the chandelier

We're dancin' all alone

There's no reason to hide

What we're feelin' inside

Right now

So baby let's just turn down the lights

And close the door

Oooh I love that dress

But you won't need it anymore

No you won't need it no more

Let's just kiss 'til we're naked, baby

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

I like this image because it seems to illustrate the dizzying way that recalling a memory seems to happen. We form patterns in our mind and then the solid details appear within.

A long walk with family in Glenfeshie resulted in no realistic entries for the "Suddenly" theme. The less said about my attempt to photograph a golden eagle the better, let's just say I'm not a wildlife photographer. The weather was overcast and the light was very flat, so it seemed there was no drama to be had in the scenery, which was peaceful.

Then I started to play about with the camera, trying out some ICM shots before I had a go at a zoom burst (which I hadn't had any success with before).

This is image of Achleum farmstead starts at around 270mm and closes in to about 240mm or so. In PP, I've straightened the image (wonky horizon = pet hate) and increased the clarity and contrast a little.

Because using the Merry Go Round in the normal way is not exciting enough for the gymnasts :-)

Yesterday I noticed a blog post that slights minifig photography and it upset me. I will not name the blog because I do not wish to start any kind of war but I'd just like to comment that we (photographers and builders) are all fans of LEGO and LEGO products so we should be respectful of each other's creations. Everyone, builders and photographers alike, put a lot of effort into their work and we should respect that! I love looking at MOCs even though my building skills are lacking. Seeing everyone creations is inspiring to me and I hope that not all builders are annoyed at seeing my photos on Flickr.
