So called because its larvae are predators upon grasshopper eggs, this insect is a fly, not a bee. As an adult it is, however, a bee mimic, which may serve to deter some predators. I'll admit that the insect world is vast and confusing, and I may get it wrong as often as I get it right, so if anyone has a different opinion, please do not hesitate to correct my I.D. of this as Systoechus vulgaris.
It was resting briefly atop an unopened poppy in my backyard garden. There are huge numbers of them present this week in my corner of the prairie. Fuzzy, furry, and sort of cute, it spent several minutes cleaning sticky pollen off its long proboscis. These flies are harmless; they don't bite or sting. They are always welcome in my garden.

Very happy today because Canon Spain has choose my picture for his IG gallery like TopCanon Image of this week.

Fourteenth picture of the series Delta Dreams.
(For this time in vertical, reverse the roles on the boats.
The sun was out and you can be appreciated just to the right of the boat in the background, all those pixels you see are hundreds of flamingos feeding in these lands so good for them.
From my position I listened to them perfectly, but due to fog were almost imperceptible)
My dreamed sunrise in the Delta of the river Ebro -Tarragona-.
The previous day, a local man explained to me a perfect location for enjoy the photograph of this beautiful land.
I consulted the parameters that night and everything was correct to travel there.
The truth is that I was impressed to get to that place, I put on my waders running to get me asap and do not lose the time.
The sun had not yet risen, the water reached my waist, good temperature, soft wind, a lot of clouds and fog surrounding the horizon, made the conditions were the best.
Many photos I've seen of this place is that in photoshop blur the horizon line with the clone tool, but there was fog and with long exposure, completely erased.
It seemed that I was doing a photo shoot in the same heaven.
I think for many more times to return to this place, I can never find anything so perfect.
This is the photo shoot I most enjoyed in recent years, have a set of at least seven impressive images.
On the technical side, say that I only used a neutral gradient three steps filter.
I hope you like it. Have a nice Friday. :)

Monday Morning Funny #58 - Because Monday Mornings are NOT funny!
LOL... I pulled over and was taking pictures of them out of the car window and talking to them the whole time. Don't ask why I was talking to them... I seem to do that with animals (like the racoons that try to get into my trash, skunks that come in the yard, seagulls that decide to sit on my Jeep)... hehehehe
Hope you all have a WONDERFUL Monday... *choke*, *cough*... BLUCK!
Seattle, Washington, USA.
(Technically, you’re viewing three different cities in this photo. From foreground to background: Bellevue, Mercer Island, and Seattle).
The title of this photograph is apropos because night time photography of urban landscapes, such as this, is often what sustains my equilibrium. I think some people call this their “happy space” or “happy place".
I think I have two happy spaces: 1) Photographing cities between sunset and nightfall while listening to tunes on my iPod; and 2) Hovering above cities in a doorless helicopter several hundred feet in the air, wind blowing around my body, while capturing the city below on camera. (Yes, I actually am completely at peace, even when there’s turbulence).
These are the two times I am at peace amidst all the pandemonium surrounding us in this world each day. This pandemonium only seems to intensify, so it’s paramount to have a personal moment to decompress and catch one’s breath.
I hope all of you have moments when you can be at peace, even if it’s for a short period of time.

Because I was shooting scenery as we hiked, I had the walkabout lens on the camera for this short encounter. He didn't hang around long enough for me to swap to the long lens.
So it goes.
Because of my eye surgery I haven't been on Flickr for awhile, except to look at pics, faves but not comments. I'm wearing sunglasses when I'm on the computer! When this guy started pecking at my house I totally forgot to take care of my eyes and took a picture. I hope it didnt' set me back too much! I hope to be posting by next week.
I'm pulling this beach scene out of the archives because we saw a 34/98 degree day today.......quite unheard of for early May and no doubt setting a record.
We'll be back down in the 20's by the weekend, but it was great to be off work & out on my deck today!! :)

Also 'Head's up" as I will be having surgery tomorrow and won't be posting much for a while...I will look at your posts and comment as I can, because they are too good to miss! :-)
Now, something to think about...
Why didn't the sun go to college?
Because he already has a million degrees!

Houghton Mill is a water mill located on the Great Ouse in the village of Houghton in Cambridgeshire. It is a National Trust property and a Grade II* listed building. The present building was probably built in the 17th century, when it replaced an earlier mill that had burnt down. It was extended in the 19th century and consists of three storeys and attics. It is part brick, part timber-framed and weather-boarded.
In the 1930s, the mill was decommissioned. Local residents bought the building and it was given to the National Trust. From 1935 to 1983, the mill was in use as a youth hostel, and was one of the few YHA establishments where smoking was forbidden because of fire hazard.
In 1999, the National Trust put in new millstones. Flour is still being milled, and the building is now a tourist attraction, with a camping site nearby.

FLOWER - GATHERING
Robert Frost
I left you in the morning,
And in the morning glow,
You walked a way beside me
To make me sad to go.
Do you know me in the gloaming,
Gaunt and dusty grey with roaming?
Are you dumb because you know me not,
Or dumb because you know?
All for me? And not a question
For the faded flowers gay
That could take me from beside you
For the ages of a day?
They are yours, and be the measure
Of their worth for you to treasure,
The measure of the little while
That I’ve been long away.
Bow Fiddle Rock is a natural sea arch near Portknockie on the eastern coast of Scotland. It is so called because it resembles the tip of a fiddle bow. It is composed of Quartzite, a metamorphic rock which was originally quartz sandstone. This rock is part of the Cullen Quartzite formation which is seen along the coast between Buckie and Cullen and is some 2,400m thick and dates from the Neoproterozoic Era, 1,000 to 541 million years ago These rocks were folded when the ancient continents of Laurentia and Avalonia collided during the Caledonian orogeny. They later became exposed at the surface where sea and weather eroded the structure seen today The rock formation is both a tourist attraction and nesting place for sea birds including herring gulls, great black-backed gulls and lesser black-backed gulls. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bow_Fiddle_Rock
Portknockie (Scottish Gaelic: Port Chnocaidh, the hilly port) is a coastal village on the Moray Firth within Moray, Scotland. The village's name is written as Portknockies in the Old Parish Registers. This would suggest that the port's name referred to not one, but two rocky hills at the hythe - the Port Hill and the Greencastle. Nearby towns include Buckie, Findochty and Cullen. The village was founded in 1677 and it became a significant herring fishing port during the nineteenth century, although today only a handful of commercial inshore boats remain. The town was on the railway network, until Portknockie station closed in 1968. A popular site in Portknockie is Bow Fiddle Rock, a large rock about 50 feet high just off the coast. The quartzite structure has a large sea arch, which somewhat resembles the bow of a fiddle, making it an example of a natural arch. Small numbers of seabirds nest on the coastal cliffs. These include fulmar, black-legged kittiwake, common gull, razorbill and shag. Additionally common eider can be seen in and around the harbour and coves during the summer months. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portknockie

This is the little bird I spoke of in the previous post.. You can tell it is still a baby because the cheek color is more orange than red and the feather development on the head.. I thought it was interesting that Dad had brought the Son out for Lunch... :-)
This is dedicated to ★.aNa.★. She was so very nice answering my questions & going above & beyond to help. I can't describe how lucky I feel to be surrounded (virtually through flickr) with such wonderful, creative and truly helpful people here.

Leilani Lingerie by Just Because
When I slip into Leilani, I feel as if I’ve stepped into a secret romance between light and lace. Satin smooths across my skin like a lover’s caress, while the delicate embroidery clings to me with an intimacy that feels both timeless and new. The corseted silhouette embraces me tenderly, sculpting every curve as though it were designed only for me.
Leilani is not just lingerie—it is a love letter written in fabric and thread. Every detail is designed to stir longing, to capture the gaze, and to invite closeness with quiet but undeniable passion.
Lace — A Heritage of Romance
The lace that adorns Leilani carries with it centuries of artistry and devotion. Born in Renaissance Italy and perfected in the ateliers of France, lace was once considered the very language of desire—gracing queens, brides, and courtesans alike. Its floral arabesques symbolized longing and intimacy, delicate beauty meant to be admired up close. In Leilani, this history is reborn, draped across the body like a whisper of romance.
PBR Innovation — A Living Fabric
Through the artistry of Physically Based Rendering (PBR), Leilani feels alive in every setting. Satin catches the glow of candlelight, lace softens into shadow and sparkle, and textures move with a realism that turns every gesture into poetry. It is lingerie that seems to breathe with me, following the contours of intimacy.
The HUD — My Palette of Moods
The Leilani HUD allows me to shift effortlessly between moments. Dark tones carry mystery, deep reds ignite passion, and blush hues soften into innocence. Sheer and opaque layers let me play between modesty and revelation, revealing as much or as little as my heart desires. Each choice is a reflection of mood, an invitation into romance.
Perfected for Every Form
Exquisitely fitted for:
* Maitreya LaraX
* Legacy & Legacy Perky
* Reborn
* Waifu
Every curve is honored, every silhouette celebrated.

When I wear Leilani, I do not simply dress—I awaken a story of desire, devotion, and elegance that lingers long after the last clasp is undone.
Because this evening gown single-handedly (if it had hands, that is) changed my mind about 'not being an evening gown girl'.

Ahhh... it's Monday. I didn't even pick up my camera at all last week. So sad! I missed it so much!! I am hoping we have our computer/ internet issues worked out and now if I could just get my photoshop to load back on my computer... grr!!
Because they are endangered, many Piping Plovers are banded. This particular one is one of the first I've seen this season and has avoided being banded.
I have reprocessed this because I'm in a summer mood - of course - and wanted to do away with my original "Fall Colors 3" shot.
Even in summer - when I can not get there,I miss the ocean.
When I look out . . my soul is at rest.

i'm posting this intentionally noisy self-portrait because last night i dreamt i was attacked by a snake, that someone else had released in order to kill me. the snake bit my hand, and i could feel the doom-filled tingling, i could feel my lungs closing up. then some strange dark-haired girl came up and started slashing at my hand with a kitchen knife to get the poison out. as my blood drained into the sink, the sound of the rain outside my window woke me up.
now, how in holy hell do i get that image the hell out of my head?
when logging on this morning and looking at pics i snapped yesterday, i found this. and i thought, ah yes. that explains it.
sorry if this is too intense. i call it like i see it. and like i've said, i used to blog, now i flickr. the image + the words is what i'm after. and i really am ok. it was just a bad dream, my head trying to exorcise the demons. it's a new day, the sun's shining, florian's yelling at me to have breakfast, work calls, and life goes on.
