White Balance.....
On Wednesday night we had a fairly heavy snowfall that continued well into Thursday morning turning the dull grey of winter into a white clean wintry wonderland. i dressed in my warmest winter clothing and grabbed my camera bag and headed out the door.
i was giddy with anticipation of the photos I would get. in my mind I imagined all the fantastic shots I would take and I was not disappointed..... what photographer among us doesn't imagine that this shot will be his best so far. i know I see the shot in my mind before i even raise the camera to shoot.
i painstakingly adjust my ISO to get the crispest possible shot given the low light conditions of early morning. i then set my aperture and dial in my shutter speed, check and recheck my light meter for correct exposure and then compose and shoot.
here are a few more from yesterday morning. I will post a couple more later this week.

This is the last of three murals painted by local artist and businessman by Kevin Hansen...
I have added the frame here in my post-processing.
Also, since I don't know if the artist has given it a title, I have titled it temporarily here. I will change it if and when I hear otherwise.
Kevin is a cobbler who owns and operates Molly's Cobbler Shop, which is just 10 blocks from our home.
He is also an accomplished artist, regularly producing original artwork, often hanging them outside on one of his shop walls. He often features themes of our city and state. I love his style and effective use of colors!
As I was passing his shop today, I parked, got out, and captured each of the three Christmas murals hanging on his outside wall. This is one of those paintings. I may put all three of them in a collage and post them.
Here are two links if you want to see more of Kevin's artistry. The first link is to his shop's website, and the second features more of his art projects :)
My favourite of several images I love (and many I took) on a magical morning at Lake Bohinj in Slovenia. We got there for sunrise and at first it was just very foggy and grey. But slowly the mist thinned and lifted, revealing silvery layers of hoar-frost coated trees. And when the sun broke through... just beautiful.

Frosted Silver Tips ....
The snow fell like millions of tiny feathers from the white colorless sky above, carried upon some invisible breeze; drifting this way and that as they fell towards earth...
Karen and I ventured out and spent a few hours walking in the fresh fallen snow, stopping occasionally to look and listen... marveling at the sound of the flakes hitting our jackets.
This pine trees needles were silver and beautiful covered in fresh snow....

An abstract winter composition of tree trunks, limbs and bare branches against a clear deep-blue sky. Bright early-afternoon sun and dark shadows. My eye is drawn to the contrasts in scale among the different elements of the tree, as well as to the overall abstract pattern.
