Winter tree - Black Walnut

You couldn't take this today, in its place is an industrial unit!!!! I know...words fail me! Just off the M6 at Penrith. 13 January 1979

I've never seen another hawfrost like it. Everywhere was a winter wonderland.

Slide copy. This was polarised, and I've lightened the sky a lot. Agfa CT18 and I've lowered the clarity slider in Lr to reduce the "rice pudding" grain. ;o)

Won't do me no good washin' in the river,

Please listen to the unique sound of The Civil Wars

I took this picture on Monday when it had just started to snow. It snowed all day on Monday, all night, and all day Tuesday. We also had high winds causing a lot of drifting. When all was said & done I think we got about 9" of snow.

Trees can be short, trees can be tall

Whatever kind, I love them all

;-)

Have a nice one my friends ! Cheers ; )

I admit it, i am addicted to textures..i included the original photo below. I like them both, they each have a unique personality. The winter has been so beautiful here, the trees were coated with frost and the sky was foggy..so surreal.

Every once in a rare while a winter weather event happens that magically transforms the ordinary into extraordinary, it can change the mundane into the absolutely incredible. On Thursday night north Caledon had just such a transforming event; shortly after midnight It began raining heavily and then when the temperature suddenly dropped, everything froze over leaving the entire area bathed in ice crystals.

When Karen and I arrived Friday morning we could scarcely believe our eyes at what we found. It was like a scene out of a fairy tale. Every branch, leaf, twig and plant was completely covered with a thick coat of ice; long translucent icicles dangled from every branch and twig. A gentle cool east wind gently swayed the branches making a fine crystal like sound, you could hear the melodic noise like a million tiny glass bells being struck ever so softly.... as the breeze made its way through the tops of the ice coated trees we could hear the heavier icicles breaking and then falling, followed by the gentle thud as the ice fell and landed in the frozen snow below.

This photo is of a thick part of the forest canopy where the sunlight was having a hard time getting through. The illusion of the lack of depth caused by the glittering icicles on the branches played havoc with my eyes. i was so glad this photo captured what i was seeing perfectly.

Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favourite and for the kind comments,.

10 degrees and very windy here in Zirconia, Western North Carolina

Back in early February I got the ideal conditions to capture my favourite clump of willow trees sitting in the flooded waters of The River Wear after Storm Dennis had passed. I'd waited 4 years for these conditions to return.

Spent some time wandering bits of Wiltshire I haven't visited in too long or at all recently. This is the view from the Oliver's Castle near Devizes late on a winter's evening, with frost still on the ground.

If you've followed me for a while I'm sure you'll recognise this spot :-) It looked pretty in the fog.

The narrowboat pops out of the fog a bit better when viewed fullscreen.
