This past week most of Ontario went through a major ice storm. The temperatures dropped below freezing then hovered in the -1 -2 Celsius range for three days; all the while it rained heavily, causing major chaos on the roads and covering trees and roads in a thick sheet of ice. Branches too week to withstand the heavy Burdon of the thick ice snapped some even splitting in two, leaving such a mess for people to clean up. Many were without power for days. Where we live the damage was not as bad as in the Barrie and northern areas of southern Ontario.
Early the next morning I ventured out; carefully slipping and sliding my way to the local park to get these shots. As I crossed the frozen field I had to stomp my path through the frozen ground. The heavy layer of ice weighed down the trees until they were bent down and touched the ground, even the fence of local baseball diamond was covered in a transparent layer of ice.
This photo of the fence along the main path to the park. it had a layer of ice that covered the entire surface like a coat of varnish.

Looking up at a group of trees in the woodland along the banks of the River Don, Aberdeen.
The low winter sun giving them a lovely golden look against the blue sky.
Reconstructed Continental Army soldier’s hut at the Muhlenberg Brigade encampment in Valley Forge National Historical Park, Pennsylvania. The low shingled roof and hand-hewn logs sit under a moody winter sky, with split-rail fences and bare trees hinting at the 1777–78 winter quarters.

Die Morgensonne vertreibt den kalten Nachtnebel. Langsam lösen sich die feinen Schleier auf.
The morning sun drives away the cold night fog. Slowly, the delicate mist dissolves.
Icy Frosty Cold.....
this photo from a big ice storm that swept thorough our area just over a year ago is a really great shot missed the first time around,.
March 2016 most of Ontario went through a major ice storm. This photo of a row of pine trees really shows how much ice cover there was. all the limbs were so heavy they drooped low and close to the trunk.

This gnarly old tree, which seems to have survived for centuries, is a favorite of mine. Located on Dobbins Farm in Townville, South Carolina, it's become a sort of beacon for me as I arrive on many early winter mornings, pushing through the fog to pursue my passions for birding and photography.
