This image was made while cross country skiing on the Mize Loop at Kincaid Park, in Anchorage Alaska, during a particularly frosty time in January. The temperature was in the single digits above zero, Fahrenheit. I had to stop frequently to photograph! Kincaid Park is a large city park with a large number of trails to hike, bike or ski.
Time to say thank you for viewing and all nice comments to my work.......
Merry Christmas and a happy and creative 2015 !

Every once in a rare while a winter weather event happens that magically transforms the ordinary into extraordinary, it can change the mundane into the absolutely incredible. On Thursday night north Caledon had just such a transforming event; shortly after midnight It began raining heavily and then when the temperature suddenly dropped, everything froze over leaving the entire area bathed in ice crystals.
When Karen and I arrived Friday morning we could scarcely believe our eyes at what we found. It was like a scene out of a fairy tale. Every branch, leaf, twig and plant was completely covered with a thick coat of ice; long translucent icicles dangled from every branch and twig. A gentle cool east wind gently swayed the branches making a fine crystal like sound, you could hear the melodic noise like a million tiny glass bells being struck ever so softly.... as the breeze made its way through the tops of the ice coated trees we could hear the heavier icicles breaking and then falling, followed by the gentle thud as the ice fell and landed in the frozen snow below.
This shot was taken as the rising sun was just cresting the tree tops, as it shone through the thick layers of ice in the upper branches it burst into a thousand splinters of coloured light. giving off this beautiful iridescent pink hue. Creation never ceases to amaze me as it shines forth His handy work.

Just a few weeks ago, winter trees covered the high mountains. Hopefully spring will soon bring beautiful pale-green life.

>>> ANOTHER MULTI EXPOSURE SHOT APPROX. ELEVEN YEARS AGO WITH AN ORBIT CAMERA FROM LOMOGRAPHY. (DO THEY STILL SELL THESE? I SHOT TWO ROLLS, AND THEN IT WAS LOST/STOLEN. D'OH.) This and the next post were each from a test roll shot -- all I managed before a vanishing act. Just REdiscovered...
BTW, THERE'S A NOTE THAT I FEEL COMPELLED TO ADD. THE "CASTLE" IS ACTUALLY THE CITY'S ARMORY, THE SITE OF MY PARENTS' FIRST DATE. DAD, WHO HAD BECOME SMITTEN WITH THIS SMART, BEAUTIFUL, UNUSUAL YOUNG WELSH WOMAN HE HAD MET AT A SMALL TOWN IN THE MOUNTAINS, ESCORTED HER TO A DANCE. 8^)
Less than a week now - this was taken on December 10th when we got 18 inches of snow here in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

After a week of an Arctic Vortex hanging over us in MN. Today’s temp of minus 10’c felt like a positive heatwave.
So out came the camera to catch this scene across the lake, if not pneumonia as well - lol
Check out my short movie about wintertrees, the music should draw you into it...

I promised my husband that I would not use my new Lumix LX100 outside in wet weather and ruin it, like my previous compact camera...hence this taken through the car windscreen, while waiting in the car!

I love where I live! I don't have to go far at all and I can be somewhere "far away". I can lose myself in the woods and not get lost! This particular spot is at the Fly'n B Park, a 20 acre preserved historic ranch site, just minutes from subdivisions.
A surprise snowfall in March covers this farm field and with the muted grey sky creates a nostalgic winter scene.

Even on numbing, frosty nights,
Through branches bare, and gnarled like
Fingers frozen in winter's icey grasp,
Bathed in beautiful white moonlight
Owls
Hunters
Silent ghosts
With tallons sharp and penetrating as winter's cold,
Swoop
To claim another soul in the freezing
Dead of night
It is the killing time ...
