One from the "big freeze" of 2010 that I've only just got round to editing ! It seemed appropriate for today as it's midday and still -3C outside !

… Dense fog at Pico. Fantastic day of skiing!

A welcome, if short-lived glimpse of winter sun at Rufus Castle, Portland.

This Northern Cardinal was seen and photographed in lose proximity to Ottawa's UNESCO Heriatge Rideau Canal that

winds its way through the urban core on its way to connect with Lake Ontario about 200 kms away. This species has slowly extended its range to include the Ottawa region. When I was a child these were seldom seen but are quite common here nowadays...My wife loves them and they're her favorite bird!! This image was well worth the wait, I scouted out an area where the Cardinals were frequenting , and set up to wait for one to perch on this tree bough...Indeed, good things can come to those that wait ( sometimes) :o) Hope you enjoy this image!!

View from across my field, southern IL, winter sunset.

I pass this view when I go to pick up Emmie at school/daycare

HWW!

Daniel and I took a long walk around a lake yesterday. The beech trees still feel like autumn, the lake was frozen from cold winter days, but it felt like spring would be here soon and the sun already reminded me of summer days. :)

The day we buried our sweet pup, Angel, the sunset was almost like the Northern Lights in intensity and changing colors. I think it was a fitting goodbye. She would have turned 15 later this year.

Winter Frosted Pine

I have captured this view before, during summer. That time I was eaten alive by about two million mosquitoes. This time, however, I was alone on the mountain.

Looking back at some photos from just before Christmas, I came across this one of Lynn walking under a mitten tree. I think someone lost a pair of mitts and a passerby put them in the branches of the tree so perhaps they could be found again. An f stop of 6.3 gave me a surprisingly good DOF.

I was drawn to all the colours in this scene of winter trees and spent some time thinking about the colours an artist might use to capture this in oil paints

Breckinridge Park, Richardson, TX.

I like the bare branches of winter trees.

Through the Autumn fall, rain, snow, frost and gales, this leaf has stubbornly clung on to the old Oak tree.

On my way home I passed this little frozen oasis. I almost considered taking a winter bath, but I hadn't brought my towel. Next time perhaps... :)
