With heavy cloud cover at home, and the first couple of places I stopped, for whatever reason I decided to drive north and see if I could get out from under them. Wound up in the middle of nowhere, standing in the middle of a road, watching an amazing show. Near Marion, WI early on September 1, 2016.

Was hoping for a bit more storm action this afternoon, but I guess I'll take whatever I can get. This line was trying to organize and produce a shelf cloud, but never really seemed to get its act together. Seen here at Winchester, WI. July 5, 2017.

I'd like to ask this 1898-built lighthouse about all the nights it sat guarding the harbor while lights danced crazily in the sky...
I had just a small glimpse into what it would be like on this night as the aurora lines up alongside the Milky Way. Well worth the effort to brave the strong south winds and the 1/2 mile walk each way on forest paths.

In this view from the observation tower on the northeast end of Hecla Island, we can see at least four satellites, including an Iridium Flare. The Pleiades are down low to the right of center, and the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) looks on from top right. Oh, and there's some aurora as well.

SBA Airlines (Santa Bárbara Airlines) 767-300 with winglets YV612T on short final for Runway 09 at MIA.
Down at lower latitudes, where you are further away from the aurora a bright moon can really wash out the view. No problems with that here as the moon is rising under a nice arc...
