Sunset at LFTH Airport

Modern aeroplanes have winglets on their wings to reduce aerodynamic drag caused by wingtip vortices.

Maybe a similar principle applies to the primary flight feathers of large birds ….

Passenger planes generally don’t engage in aerobatics, but climbing out in the sectored (noise contours) Randstad airspace, they sometimes almost have to. Shown here is the river Schie, shot from a sharply banking Transavia B737-700, a minute after take-off from Rotterdam-The Hague airport, on its way to Faro (Algarve-Portugal).
