Seeing auroras much further north than I usually do was quite an experience- for most of the time at lower latitudes the arc can be a bit dim and you count on the occasional substorm to liven things up. My basic go-to exposure is ISO 1000, F2.8, and 30-sec. If there is a moon out it can certainly wash things out...this particular image during a fantastic substorm illustrates the difference- this is ISO800, F2.8, and four seconds. Some of the cloud illumination at upper right is from a 70% moon just out of the frame. Probably should have dropped the ISO even more and balanced that with a slightly longer exposure, but I'll take this result. Along the bottom of the aurora it was literally zipping around the sky, green underlined with pink. Bucket-list type material here...one only wonders what the (few) people in the neighboring cabins thought about all the crazy people out on the shore yelling at 0330 in the morning...

With the distinction of being the oldest hull still active on the Great Lakes, and (I believe) the last steamer...the Alpena still looks great despite her 1942 build date. Seen here negotiating the Dousman/Main Street drawbridge in downtown Green Bay, WI. Alpena is carrying another load of cement for LaFarge from Michigan. May 31, 2017.

Pembine, Wisconsin was the crossing between the Soo Line and Milwaukee Road...in later years it became the WC and E&LS. Built in 1887, the uniquely-shaped structure was torched by a couple of delinquent teenagers in June 2019. Seen here with an E&LS SD40-2 (of Milwaukee Road heritage no less) back on March 29, 2017.

The wind farm on the southeast side of Lake Winnebago is named "Blue Sky, Green Field"; run by WE Energies. It is currently the 2nd largest wind farm in Wisconsin, consisting of 88 turbines and capable of generating 145 megawatts. Here's a small portion of that farm as seen from Oshkosh, roughly 12-miles away on the west shore.

As far as I can tell, this is the first photographic evidence of this a/c with winglets!
One of only a handful of ringleted 767-300's in the United fleet rolling out on 27L in Chicago.

Had a little storm action yesterday, this seen west of Oshkosh, WI. At the time of this image this cell was severe-warned for hail, but as it progressed eastward it fizzled out in a hurry. Not much of a shelf cloud left at this point but still had some nice greenage. September 21, 2016.

Captured from an airplane window, the photo shows a winglet against a twilight sky. The hues of pink and blue in the sky and unfocused foreground create a tranquil mood, while the motion blur hints at the speed of the aircraft.
Named: "Ketildyngja".
This aircraft was delivered to Iberia as EC-GZZ in Apr-99. It was sold to Babcock & Brown Aircraft Management on delivery and leased back to Iberia.
It was returned to BBAM in Sep-04 and leased to VARIG Brazil as PP-VTR later that month. The aircraft was returned to the lessor in Jul-06 and stored at Miami, FL, USA. It was re-registered N263LF in Aug-06 and remained stored at Miami until it was sold to ILFC (Ireland) Ltd in Nov-06 as EI-DUC.
The aircraft was leased to Air Union/Kras Air in Dec-06. It was returned to the lessor in Mar-09 and stored at Toronto the following month. In Oct-09 it was leased to I-Fly (Russia) and returned to the lessor in Dec-15.
It was stored at Shannon, Ireland until it was sold to Icelandair in Apr-16 as TF-ISR. Blended winglets were fitted the same month prior to service entry. Later, the winglets were replaced by the 'Scimitar' version with the 'pointy bits' at the top trailing edge. Current, updated 27-Jan-22.

Built in 1910 (!!!!), the tugboat North Dakota has surely lent it's efforts to some legendary lakers...
On this bitterly cold day in Green Bay, WI, she shoves hard on the side of Algosteel trying to turn her stern into the berth. Earlier this day that 12-cylinder pre-EMD Cleveland diesel was fun to listen to as it kept the local area clear of ice.
It wasn't too long after I took this image that there was a very loud BANG, and large cloud of smoke as North Dakota's diesel gave up. Any fire was quickly extinguished, and assistance was rendered by the tugboat Barbara Andrie and the USCG Mobile Bay, both on hand to assist with the docking of one of the last movements for the season into the Port of Green Bay.

The 1898-built Gull Harbour lighthouse stands guard as the aurora borealis plays overhead...I can only imagine all the light shows this structure has witnessed over the years. Until the mid-1960's there was a permanent lighthouse keeper who lived nearby, must have been a great job if you like being alone and in the dark.

Hey what'dya know, I have a date and some details on this shot. In the siding at Anton, WI is WC train WSFD1T-01 (WauSau to Fond Du lac; 1st train of the 1st). Up front is one of the 5 F45's WC operated (6652 was an FP45). Nice to look at but terrible to work with...cab heaters were never adequate, and the only way to stay cool in the summer was to run with the side doors propped open.

Jet2's first 'Split Scimitar' winglet equipped Boeing 737-800.
Named: "Jet2 Majorca"
First flown with the Boeing test registration N1786B, this aircraft was delivered to the Aviation Capital Group and leased to Sunwing Airlines (Canada) as C-FLSW in Jul-08.
It was fitted with 'Split Scimitar' winglets in May-14, just prior to wet-lease to Travel Service Airlines (Czechia) and operation for SmartWings Airlines. It returned to Sunwing in Oct-14.
In Apr-18 the aircraft was wet-leased to TUI Airlines Netherlands and returned to Sunwing in Oct-18. It was wet-leased to SmartWings airlines again between Jun / Oct-19. It was withdrawn from service and stored at Montreal-Mirabel in Sep-21.
The aircraft was moved to Hamilton, ON, Canada in Mar-22 for further storage. It was returned to the lessor as VP-CQF in Jul-22 and stored at Goodyear, AZ, USA.
In Mar-23 the aircraft was leased to Jet2,com as G-JZBX and parked at Manchester, UK awaiting maintenance, interior reconfiguration and painting. It entered service in May-23. Current, 14-May-23.
There is still some lingering twilight in the northwestern sky as an auroral arc reveals itself in the coming darkness...underneath it all, the laker Edwin H. Gott is downbound with an early-season load of taconite for the hungry steel mills at Gary, IN. This would turn out to be an outstanding night for me, with an all-night aurora display over Lake Superior. Near Eagle Harbor, MI on March 28, 2017. #puremichigan
