Provincial Air Service - 100yr Anniversary logo on winglet.
...I was out on a ridgetop near Tigerton, WI watching this. Of note in this image is "Blobert" (a character that occasionally seems to show up in images during aurora displays, see Great Lakes Aurora Hunters on Facebook); the Milky Way, Andromeda Galaxy, and a meteor.
Just a fabulous night out. September 1, 2016.

Finnair flight from Helsinki to Rovaniemi - sunset just disappearing over the frozen lakes and forests of Finland as we pass the town of Rovaniemi. The airport just visible on the righthand side I believe.
Winglet of Airbus A321 visible with the navigation light lit , we landed in a few minutes at the small but busy airport north of the town.
This was arrival for the first part of our trip with three nights to try and capture some images and hopefully the aurora borealis.
Sadly as we came to realise that you have no control over the climatic conditions - snow fall and ice plus 100% cloud cover each night put paid to seeing the sky lit up once again. The Northern Lights were only a kp of one was another issue !!
I had trip with guarantee to see the northern lights, the only issue is we might spend 10 hours travelling to Sweden or Norway in a small coach in the night to get a glimpse.
My apps were not promising much for a spectacle which was quite disappointing, but that is nature.
It was not to be and the mini-bus trip was cancelled with a full refund.
So a case of forget any images, just enjoy what you can. I feel climate change has also had an impact on the grotty weather we seem to get recently.
It had been a tiring day with early start to Heathrow , then nearly three hours to Helsinki, a four hour stopover to get this flight. The day was dark at start and finish but a new adventure was going to be experienced by my wife and I having never been to Finland before.

Lake Winnipeg takes on that lovely shade of "aurora green" as the lights play across the sky. October 11, 2017.

This is an underwing shot of a small part of a 'Ringlet' (Aphantopus hyperantus) butterfly, which I recently found in a car park at Croome Park, Worcestershire. I’ve no idea how it died but it was just lying there on the ground. This shot represents approximately 8mm x 5mm in reality. Love the textures that really cannot be appreciated with the naked eye.
Olloclip add on lens macro @ 21x magnification then also zoomed in by roughly 20%, handheld, manually triggered, reverently tickled in Snapseed on iPad Pro.
To help get a sense of scale here’s a shot of a small Ringlet butterfly showing clearly the 3 rings in a row.....
"Winglets Split Scimitar".
"Because winglets curve upward, the higher air pressure on the wing's lower surface flows toward the tip and curls with the winglet. Since the air is pushed upward, this reduces the vortex and subsequent energy loss that is created by air flowing around the wingtip. The split design of the new ones, then, further reduce the vortexes formed behind the wing, which in turn further reduces energy loss."

Looks like Mother Nature is going to drop near continuous clouds and storm systems over the upper midwest through the weekend, so my annual "drive north" spring aurora trip is tenatively cancelled. Haven't been doing much photography lately as other interests are taking up my time. In any event, here's a shot from March 28, 2017 up near Eagle Harbor, MI.

With heavy cloud cover at home, and the first couple of places I stopped, for whatever reason I decided to drive north and see if I could get out from under them. Wound up in the middle of nowhere, standing in the middle of a road, watching an amazing show. Near Marion, WI early on September 1, 2016.

Was hoping for a bit more storm action this afternoon, but I guess I'll take whatever I can get. This line was trying to organize and produce a shelf cloud, but never really seemed to get its act together. Seen here at Winchester, WI. July 5, 2017.

In this view from the observation tower on the northeast end of Hecla Island, we can see at least four satellites, including an Iridium Flare. The Pleiades are down low to the right of center, and the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) looks on from top right. Oh, and there's some aurora as well.
