7 Days of Shooting Week #32 Love or Loathe Contrast Thursday ....

Thanks to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... thanks to you all.

This is my photo for the panorama theme for the group 52 in 2015.

This is my local neighbourhood when I am in my northern abode. The road along the riverside is officially called The Shore, and the river is the Water of Leith.

Leith was a separate town but was joined with Edinburgh in 1920.

Ruby Hunts Cottage - During the first convict period the Commandant, Major T. D. Lord, constructed his own residence on this hill. Mrs Hunt’s house however, was built in the early 1900s, over the ruins of the old Visiting Magistrate’s dwelling of the second convict period. As you can see, the position commands an excellent view of Darlington and the surrounding waterways, which would have been important for the commandant and later for Mrs Hunt. Ruby Hunt was by all accounts a bit of a character and operated a pedal wireless, which at the time was the only communication link with the mainland of Tasmania. It is also said that she would hang a lantern in her cottage window to guide in the ship that collected and delivered the mail for the island

Our weather changed from being nice to windy and rain, today and anyone getting too close to the water's edge would be getting wet and no doubt cold!!

week 32

I took my newly acquired fish-eye lens out for a walk around Rotterdam this week. It was fun :)

Tiny silver heart charm. It is only 1/2 inch squared.

For six word story.

I have had to "neglect" my household and garden "duties" to become a temporary "Monarch Momma." This was done to give a few Monarch caterpillars better odds for survival, at least to eclose. Three of four Monarch butterflies have successfully been released, with one last pupa/chrysalis to go! (Updated August 7, 2019)

Theme of The Week -- Monochromatic Color

When I feel the need of some peace and tranquillity, Edinburgh Botanic Garden always provides it. The trees are still bare and there's not much colour around but I relax as soon as I enter - and spring is definitely in the air.

Week 32 Multiple Exposure.

The tail end of hurricane Bertha was making walking Charlie interesting..We headed off to a tree-lined drove to keep out of the strong wind and give us shelter from the rain. I wasn't expecting to see much wildlife but we watched a Roe Deer in an adjacent field and found several Dragonflies patrolling the sheltered glade. Charlie was keeping a keen watch on this one as I gently lifted it closer for him to see..When it suddenly lifted off it made him jump as it figure of eighted over his head. I think this is a Southern Hawker..Charlie said that would be an Aeshna cyanea then...or maybe it was just a sneeze!

Anarkali's real name was Nadira. She was one of the most famous dancing girls during Emperor Akbar's period (1542 - 1600). Prince Salim who later ascended the throne of Akbar fell in love with her. This relationship was not viewed favourably by emperor Akbar who, according to legend, sentenced her to be buried alive at this place.

This mausoleum is located inside the compound of civil secretariat Lahore and is the office of the Punjab archives.

Still catching up with 52 weeks groups...

The theme for week 32 in the group 52 in 2013 was Motion.

Le défi thématique pour la 32e semaine du groupe 52 in 2013 était Mouvement.

This is a picture of great cormorants in motion.

Voici donc une photo de grands cormorans en mouvement.

Did you know that because cormorants are buoyant yet need to dive, they must swallow pebbles to make themselves heavy enough to stay under water?

Le saviez-vous?

Les cormorants avalent de petits cailloux pour se faire plus lourd pour plonger sous l'eau.

7DOS macro - chosen because I love pretty sewing items

This old house has been in this state for a number of years which makes you really wonder, why? It most certainly is well past the "neglect" stage!!

Thursday August 12th 2010

I've been SOOO busy at work these past couple of weeks...

Haven't even had the chance for proper lunch breaks...

Let along getting out for a walk with my shadow!

The weather's been pretty patchy too...

She prefers to stay indoors when it's like that!

But today we both were getting a bit of Cabin Fever...

Had enough of feeling 'fenced in'...

Stuck indoors... long days... working late!

So we both decided to slip out for a few minutes...

Stretch our legs and get some fresh air...

The sun was shining too for a pleasant change...

Otherwise I don't think she would have joined me! %-)

Forgive me if I'm a bit slow in catching up at the moment...

but work's been driving me NUTS and swallowing up way too much of my time!!! %-)

Just another heart ~ come on it's Valentine's Day, tomorrow ;-)

Theme Of The Week - Silhouette

Every year on Henry Shaw's birthday, the Missouri Botanical Garden has a party. There is free admission, a silhouette artist, and, of course, cake!

I always love looking across the sea to Ailsa Craig and Arran as the views can really change depending on the weather ~ here I am looking across to that great granite rock, Ailsa Craig!

This morning's clear blue sky made me think of paintings by Yves Klein and of "Klein Blue".

The Flickr Lounge group has chosen Pick a Colour for the Week 32 weekly theme.

Definitely Dreaming - Week 32 Vegetable

Just in case you are wondering, the vegetable is the potato chip :)))

On one of the hotest days of the year, I dragged the OH down to the beach and bought him a bag of chips, just so that I could get a pic for the challenge :))

It was even too hot for the sea gulls and we were able to eat the chips without a hungry audience. Everyone else were quickly eating ice creams before they melted.

I went up the mountain earlier this week to see if I could grab a shot. It had been a very trying couple of weeks and I needed a mental reset.

Alicia and I got derailed the second week of August. We had packed and moved the entire week and barely had time to take a breath, let alone shoot. We both thought we would have time on the 10th to take a quick shot, just to keep up with everything. Unfortunately, things don't always work out the way we plan.

We had finished the last load and cleaned up a bit before we went and got the furry kids. We will never know the reasons or the cause, but Maddie lost the use of her back legs by 11pm that night. After a very restless few hours, her condition worsened and we took her to the emergency vet. There was nothing that they were able to do and we had to say goodbye to her.

That, combined with finishing the move and unpacking took all the energy I had, so I didn't shoot for over a week. Things are getting better and I know that we will be back in the swing of things soon, so I hope our late submissions are ok.

Good Monday morning, my Flickr friends... Have a beautiful day!

"7 Days of Shooting" "Week #32" "Silhouette" "Macro Monday"

This is a shot from my time in London. After showing the original to a friend they mentioned how they could imagine the squirrel holding a 'nutsaber' (or lightsaber to us ordinary folk), so I did a bit of photoshopping and this is the final result.

I needed something a little humorous and different on my stream, so I thought I'd upload :)

I needed to photograph this bronze age stone circle for a tourist guide book I am assisting with. Long Meg is the large stone on the left, and I'd tried all ways to get a good close up of this 12 foot high stone but they were all useless.

So I went back to the car which I'd parked under a tree, packed my camera away. Then looked up, and got my camera out again and took this. I'd given up on getting anything so it was nice to get one I liked!

Still behind with comments. I think I may be kidding myself about the 365 again next year....

It is always nice to see a lovely splash of colour along a country road!
