A little souvenir left by the ancients, perhaps from the nearby submerged Byzantine church or the nearby palace of Constantine or the nearby Senate building (the bit of 'land' sticking out into the water in the background)?

for 7DoS: Though I can now, thankfully, breathe through my nose again after a nasty head cold, I haven't had my camera out for a few days. This means I get to use another shot of my favourite local wall and I get to play catch up over the next couple of days :)

I love the delicate colouring of the outer petals.

Theme Of The Week - Lucky Eights

The Flickr Lounge group has picked What's in your pocket? for the Week 32 weekend theme.

I have carried a knife, handkerchief and keys in my left-hand trouser pocket for as long as I can remember, certainly over sixty-five years. Back then my belt did not need to be as long as it is now 😟

I was looking for inspiration for the 7 Days of Shooting assignment "Love or Loathe" when I took this one (I'm probably revealing myself as a bit of a cynic, shooting garlic and marmite instead of Valentine's -related subjects! - but I'm enjoying looking at everyone else's interpretations of the theme, too). I used an ordinary table lamp turned on its side, for lighting and a 55-200mm lens (I think my next purchase is going to be a macro lens, when I've saved up enough!) :-)

52 weeks of 2021, week 32 Hockney collage

"For those who may not know Hockney or his body of work known as the Mosaics, here is a bit of history. Popular back in the 80's these "joiner" images by David Hockney, who created the concept, were originally Polaroid images stuck together with tape to produce one larger scene. The story is that Mr Hockney did not like the distortion created by wide angle lenses and while working on a commission for a painting of a living room and balcony, stumbled upon the idea of taking many photos with a Normal Lens and joining them together with adhesive tape to create the overall scene. He quickly realised that he actually really liked the effect and did a large number of subsequent mosaic style shots with a variety of subjects."

Self-Portrait With Camera - We've all seen the lazy self-portrait where the photographer points his camera at a mirror and clicks the shutter button. The challenge here is to take a photograph of yourself taking a photograph of yourself...and find a way to make it interesting.

A photo of myself taking a photo of myself taking a photo of myself taking a, well, you get the picture.

To make it more interesting, I applied the Droste Effect to the original.

On Sunday my two daughters and myself joined with over 28000 people in the Bridge to Brisbane 10km walk or run. I love walking over the Gateway Bridge as you get great views of the Brisbane high rises and as you get closer to the city I feel as though I am "on my way home". My finishing time was 1.49.44.

The house is across the street from where I teach. The car was the first thing I noticed. It was dusty and clearly hadn't been driven in years. The owner had died and the house sat--mostly--vacant for years. I imagined a time capsule of life and tried to figure out how to get permission to legally shoot photos inside. Then I saw signs that people were squatting. Eventually a relative of the late owner tried to retake the house. At one point the squatters threw him down the stairs. In March it got serious. He cut down the bamboo in the back and had the squatters arrested. They responded by burning down the house and even torching the car. Last week the house was demolished right on top of the car (I was there with the owners' permission and saw a red plastic gas can among the mess). The house debris is gone; only the bulldozer and car remain. The weekly theme in the 52-week project is "seven deadly sins."

At one time this was a beautiful hotel set in the wonderful surroundings of Belleisle Country Park. There has been change to ownership all sorts of debate about refurbishment and car park space which appeared to go on and on!!

What you see are the remains of a fire that has now delayed whatever plans, that might have been agreed upon, further back!!

On my list of things I even half expected to get in the mail today, this was pretty far down... right after a live bobcat. So imagine my surprise - nay, delight - when I uncovered this gem packed in with my returning Viper. Ace, you are gentleman and a scholar. I salute thee.

The perks of spending too much time online, and spending it wisely. :D

Mr. Brickmodder: nice work here. I would have preferred everything to be the newer bluish greys instead of a mix, but I can live with this (just need to pick up some old-dark-grey liftarms for the treads to match the 'nocs). Oh... and I already broke the switch mount... It still works, but yeah. Hamfists.

Photography while driving? Sounds illegal. Set up the tripod in the back seat, plugged in the remote trigger, and headed home. Manually set a 25 second exposure to get some light trails and hoped it looked interesting considering I was shooting blind. Maybe I should have tried the fisheye...

I think I forgot to lower the iso.. because this is super grainy.

This is one amazing looking hotel and the architectural detail is quite unique. The hotel was opened following a star-studded launch including a private concert by Beyonce.

We didn't stay in this hotel during our recent vacation in Dubai but it was only a short distance from our hotel situated n the Palm Jumeirah.

We've had a lot of rain this week....

Along with that... a lot of grey monochrome misty skies...

To the point where the city has struggled to peek through it's white haze...

Even Rangitoto has struggled to peek over the top of it's encroaching blanket...

But on Wednesday there was a soft colourful hue...

To beak this thick blanket drabness of Winter...

Got to savour it while you can don't you! %-)

This week's theme for the 52.5 weeks group is signs. Looking around for just a few minutes - (seriously - five minutes, tops), these were the signs I saw. Each of them tells us something useful (getting your money back from the vending machine) and many give a warning that just might save our lives (Electrical Arc Flash Warning).

Picasa from Google makes it fantastically easy to make collages such as this one... and, it's free! Select the pix you want, push the "collage" button, then move and rotate them, or raise and lower them as you like.

We have a stellar safety record where I work because of training, attitude, and reinforcement. That attitude translates also to how we behave at home, and when shopping, and when working with people. [Just yesterday, I pointed out an electrical hazard in a department store]. Walking past the machine shop - lots of signs warning that safety glasses should be worn - wear them at home when you are drilling, grinding, or playing around with your car battery in case acid splashes out. All electrical panels everywhere in the US should have clear areas in front in case you need to access them to shut off the power, and electrical arc-flash can cause really really bad burns, so everyone needs to know about it. Natural fiber clothing will not melt and stick to you if it burns, but you should NEVER wear synthetics around fire. Safety shoes are also a good idea at home - particularly when you are mowing the lawn. A typical person working where I work gets very little, if any, additional radiation over what everyone on planet Earth gets every day from natural background and cosmic radiation. Many people think that if they don't get an x-ray, they get no radiation - far from true. And since many rocks have natural radioactivity, people in some countries work in buildings where the natural radiation level inside the building is higher than outside, just because of the stone it's made from.
